‘The Sound of Music’ returns to GSC in September
There’s a good number of us Malaysians who have gone through hundreds of reruns of The Sound of Music. But there’s only so much justice that our TV and laptop screens can do to twirling on sprawling hills and singing our hearts out about our favourite things.
If you agree with this, mark your calendars for 26th-28th September 2025. Local cinema chain GSC has announced limited 4K remastered and restored screenings of the 1965 musical film classic at its cinema halls – it’s the perfect opportunity for us to fall in love with the music and magic all over again.

First released in 1965, the classic musical film, The Sound of Music, tells of an aspiring nun named Maria, who was given a job as a governess to look after seven mischievous children of a widowed naval officer. With her kindness, warmth, and love, Maria brings much-needed joy and music to the von Trapp household, and they grow through difficult times together.
Plus, there’s nothing like listening to Julie Andrews belt it out in The Sound of Music while frolicking about the meadows with the Alps behind her.
Now, imagine all of these coming alive on the big screen, meticulously restored and remastered in 4K. Lucky us, GSC is satisfying our nostalgia by hosting screenings of the beloved American film for three days only in celebration of an incredible 60 years of storytelling and timeless tunes.
