1. Malaysia Open 2025


7th to 12th January

The annual Malaysia Open returns to Axiata Arena Stadium this year, with beloved homegrown favourites and international shuttlers set to compete in the tournament. Instead of camping out in front of the sofa, badminton superfans can watch thrilling matches and cheer on the world’s top shuttlers in person from 7th to 12th January.

2. Le Petit Prince Exhibition

Even if you’re unfamiliar with the beloved book, the Le Petit Prince Exhibition in Malaysia will surely charm you with its multisensory zones that feature oversized roses and immersive film projections. For bookworms, it means experiencing the timeless novel’s whimsical settings in real life – you’ll feel like the Little Prince stepping onto the tiny B612 planet for the first time.

3. The Kamen Rider 50 Years Exhibition


10th January to 9th March

The Kamen Rider 50 Years Exhibition will debut in Southeast Asia this January, following its first showcase in Japan in 2022. It officially opens in KL on 10th January, instead of 20th December 2024 as was previously announced.

Fans of the celebrated franchise can look forward to viewing epic transformation belts and the costumes of notable Kamen Riders like Showa and Heisei in the flesh. Come prepared to gawk at life-sized replicas of the villains and monsters they face off too.

4. Solo Leveling Experience


11th January to 11th March

Enter the fantastical universe of Sung Jin-Woo at the Solo Leveling Experience in Pavilion Bukit Jalil. The successful Webtoon-turned-anime’s first exhibition in Malaysia has photo ops with characters, iconic battle scene recreations, and a limited-time food menu themed around the series, so fans can spend a day fully immersed in the world of hunters and dungeons.

5. Bountiful Blessings at Kwai Chai Hong

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, KL’s popular Kwai Chai Hong is set to unveil a Bountiful Blessings art installation on 10th January, inspired by the Chinese idiom Nian Nian You Yu – meaning ‘wishing you abundance year after year’ in English.

Like previous festive installations, shutterbugs can look forward to stunning public decor pieces and a centrepiece art installation for photo ops.

6. Havoc Food Festival


1st-5th and 9th-12th January

If you haven’t gotten your fill of food, Havoc Food Festival (HFF) has two events in January for foodies looking to spend the coming weekends munching on local and international grub. With 150 vendors part of the massive food fair and activities happening till midnight, you can skip the usual visit to a mamak for dinner or late-night snacking this month.

7. Malaysian Animation: From Idea To Reality at National Museum

Take a trip down memory lane by visiting the National Museum’s latest exhibition, Malaysian Animation: From Idea To Reality. 

It highlights the progress of the local animation industry, with zones to learn more about the behind-the-scenes process and creative world of nostalgia-inducing animations like Kampung Boy, Hikayat Sang Kancil, and Usop Sontorian, as well as more newer ones such as Didi & Friends and Keluang Man.

8. Tastefully Food Expo


17th to 19th January

Tastefully Food Expo returns to Mid Valley Megamall with 350 booths on 17th January. With the theme Taste of Prosperity, visitors can look forward to shopping for food and beverages for the Chinese New Year season from various vendors at the huge food expo.

9. K-pop Momentum Live Concert

Discover budding K-pop acts at the K-pop Momentum Live Concert, which takes place on 11th January. A lineup of rising K-pop rookies – TRENDZ, ILY:1, and EASTSHINE – are set to entertain the crowd at Mega Star Arena with upbeat tunes and sharp choreography.

10. Aethera at GMBB

Make your way to KL’s GMBB to view Aethera by Petaling Jaya-based, multimedia artist Vasflow. The interactive art installation reacts to the real-time brain activity of visitors to shed light on mental health. It utilises ESG technology, with the installation’s audio and visuals closely mirroring the viewer’s stillness and focus.

The installation is open to the public daily, except Mondays.

11. JoiFest S4 Theater Shows at Eslite Spectrum


9th and 13th January

KL’s chic eslite spectrum is hosting free showings of creative local productions in partnership with JoiFest. The bookstore is set to screen Psychosynthesis, a theatrical dance production that illuminates the pandemic’s effect on individuals through movement, and RhapsoD, which spotlights percussionists, students, and alumni and their commitment to rhythm.

The shows will be screened on 9th and 13th January, respectively. There’ll also be casual sharing sessions from the creative teams and performing artists behind and in the shows.

12. Concerts in Malaysia for January 2025

It may just be the first month of the year, but January is already looking good for concert kakis. American indie band Cigarettes After Sex takes the stage at Sunway Lagoon on 11th January, while South Korean R&B group wave to earth is set to perform at Mega Star Arena on 19th January. 

Boney M, the musical group behind nostalgic tunes like Rasputin and Rivers of Babylon, is dropping by Malaysia on 12th January for their 50th Anniversary tour too.
