Merdeka Month is here, and we’re gearing up for the long-awaited long weekend awaiting us at the end of the current public holiday drought. 1. Delicious in Dungeon Exhibition

All who love anime and food must have already watched – or at least, heard of – the new series, Delicious in Dungeon. If you happen to be a fan, we’ve got great news for you: there’s a new Delicious in Dungeon Exhibition at INCUBASE Arena featuring everything related to the fantastical world of the anime.
From artwork exhibits and food sculptures to a merch store and a themed cafe, this is the event to check out if you just can’t get enough of Laios, his gang, and their delectable adventures below ground.

2. ASEAN Connectivity by DBKL

Hot on the heels of the hugely successful Kuala Lumpur Orchestra Festival last June comes ASEAN Connectivity 2025, a special orchestral concert at DBKL’s Auditorium Bandaraya featuring a repertoire of popular songs from ASEAN nations.
There are shows on two nights, and the best part: both are free entry. Needless to say, you should quickly make a booking on the official site to avoid missing out on this one.

3. Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ pop-up
Now till 17th August
Calling all fans of Netflix’s favourite goth teen, Wednesday – school is now officially in session.
In conjunction with the upcoming premiere of the show’s second season, Netflix Malaysia is hosting an ‘orientation’ event where you are invited to attend dressed in your best outcast-coded ‘fit. Explore themed photo op zones, snag cool Nevermore Academy merch, and look out for Thing, who might just make an appearance.

4. AniManGaki 2025

Malaysia’s top anime, comics, cosplay, and gaming convention is back for its 2025 edition. AniManGaki 2025 is returning to the Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre for three days this August, with exciting competitions, artist performances, and cosplayer meetups in its event lineup.
There’ll also be a fan merch zone for you to support artists and makers in the doujin, plus a Community Hall where you can sign up for a booth to share your passion for anime and show off your figurine collection.

5. SMTown Concert live-viewing

If you’re a Kpop fan who couldn’t make it to the SMTOWN Concert in Tokyo this year, don’t fret. GSC is screening the event in real time in selected theatres on 9th August, so you can see your favourite SM artistes perform live without the travel costs.
The 4-hour concert will feature a smorgasbord of performances by popular artists from TVXQ, Super Junior, and Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon, to aespa, RIIZE, and NCT WISH.

6. Mega Space Molly: Hello, Moon exhibition

Whether or not you’re into the Pop Mart blind box and figure craze, it’s hard to resist the charms of one of the toy company’s most beloved characters, Molly. If you’re familiar with the adorable pouty little girl, you’ll know about her viral collectible figures that come in a variety of sizes, from 100% to the supersized 1000%.
This August, a curation of those figures will be on display at a special Mega Space Molly: Hello, Moon exhibition at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. There’ll also be opportunities to purchase popular blind boxes and event-specific merch, and join space-themed workshops while you’re here.

7. Miniteen House Party pop-up

If you’re a CARAT who missed Mingyu in Malaysia recently, or just feeling empty after saying goodbye to him at the meet-and-greet, here’s an event to cheer you up: The MINITEEN HOUSE PARTY pop-up is making a stop at Sunway Pyramid this August to September.
Come over to snap up dopamine-inducing MINITEEN goods representing the 13 members of Seventeen at this super cute pop-up, happening for just over two weeks.

8. ‘Law And The City’ red carpet in Malaysia

If you’ve been tuning in to Law And The City on Disney+ Hotstar, you can plan to see the lead actors, Lee Jong Suk and Moon Ka Young, in person. The pair will be watching the finale of the K-drama with 30 lucky fans. Don’t worry if you didn’t win the contest to be part of this private screening event – there’ll also be a public red carpet event at Pavilion KL’s main entrance, happening at 7.30pm on 10th August, which the Korean superstars will be part of.

9. Guided nature walks at Perdena Botanical Gardens

This August, the Forest Learning Centre is bringing back a collection of events at KL’s iconic Perdana Botanical Gardens for you to unplug and unwind in nature. They include a series of natural history-related talks on 17th August, with only registration required for the free-entry events.
You can also join a Nature Guide Walk on 10th August to learn more about the places in Malaysia named after plants such as Pinang and Sentul. There’s a fee of RM35 per adult to join this informative tour – you can book a slot here. There’s also a guided tour held at night, between 8pm and 9.30pm on 8th and 15th August, that lets you learn more about nature’s nightlife in KL.

10. The Godown Artists Market

A day out and about in KL isn’t quite complete without dropping by a market event. This August there’s The Godown Artists Market, happening for two days only at The Godown Arts Centre.
Themed around freedom, liberty, and independence – in accordance with Merdeka Month – this edition of the popular market will feature another eclectic curation of art, crafts, and collectibles for sale, as well as chances to rub shoulders with local creative talents through retail booths and studio sessions.

11. The Sky Race at Merdeka 118
20th August
Malaysia’s top tower runner, Soh Wai Ching, will be part of the event.

For those of you looking for a true activity-centred event – and a challenging one at that – there is The Sky Race tower run taking place at KL’s new sky-scraping icon, Merdeka 118.
This event will require you to climb 2,845 stairs up the building, at your own pace, with no cut-off time. For motivation, there’ll be a chance to soak up stunning views from the top of the tower once you reach it.

12. Disney Jr. Live On Tour
29th August to 1st September

The little ones need not miss out on the excitement this August. Take them up to Genting Highlands for the ultimate playdate with their favourite Disney characters at the Disney Jr. Live On Tour: Let’s Play stage show.
There’ll be a total of 8 showings, happening at various times over four days. Whether your kiddos are into Mickey Mouse, the Puppy Dog Pals, or Spidey, they can expect to be totally immersed in the show’s musical performances, 3D visuals, and acrobatics.

13. Good Coffee Festival

Here’s an exciting one for all you coffee aficionados out there: Good Coffee Festival is coming down to The Campus Ampang for three days, bringing in a long list of local and international coffee roasteries to excite your senses. 14. Royal Selangor Jazz Festival

For one day only, the Royal Selangor Jazz Festival is bringing together 19 bands, food trucks, and booths carrying instruments and rare vinyl records for music lovers. It’ll be a day complete with listening to jazz music – all 13 hours, to be precise – watching a jazz film, munching on good grub, and tapping your toes to jam sessions.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Experience

The epic Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Experience pop-up is now open in KL, with life-sized sets featuring epic scenes from the anime, an unmissable merch store, and a cafe with themed food and beverages.
Train like a Demon Slayer with a giant boulder at the Hashira Training Arc set and take ominous selfies with cutouts of demons in the ryokan-inspired castle room. The Plantation Plot at Ilham Gallery

Known as one of KL’s ultimate date spots, ILHAM Gallery is giving us another reason to visit this month. They have a powerful new exhibition in collaboration with KADIST, a global non-profit dedicated to sparking conversations on social issues through art.
Running from now to 21st September, The Plantation Plot is curated by rising Malaysian curator Lim Sheau Yun, whose proposal was jointly selected by ILHAM and KADIST. The exhibition brings together works by 28 artists and collectives from Southeast Asia and the Americas, exploring the deep-rooted legacies and ongoing impact of plantation systems.
