UFOREA: The Largest Indoor Playground In Penang With Futuristic Slides & A Dress-Up Zone

UFOREA indoor playground in Penang

The regular slides and monkey bars at a park playground do a good job of keeping the kiddos entertained. But level this up with a dress-up zone, a light-up bubble pool, futuristic slides, and even a comfy chill zone for the clock-watching grown-ups, and you have UFOREA in Penang.

The futuristic indoor playground opened in October 2024, and is said to be the largest indoor playground in Penang yet. It has nine zones featuring everything, from themed play structures such as a pastel-coloured climbing wall to a futuristic space-inspired playground set.

What to know before you visit UFOREA

There’ll be no need to watch for time when you’re at the futuristic UFOREA. Unlike most indoor playgrounds, this one has unlimited playtime per entry . You can find this spot at Island 88, a shopping centre in Tanjung Tokong just a 4-minute drive from George Town’s iconic Straits Quay.

Dubbing itself the largest indoor playground in Penang, UFOREA spans a whopping 20,000sqft of space on the mall’s 3rd floor – or about 22 badminton courts combined. The playground’s opening on 12th October is part of the efforts to revamp Island 88, one of the oldest malls in Penang formerly known as Island Plaza.

The indoor playground takes play zone themes to the next level. Space, fantasy, and disco are just some themes for its nine zones, which feature a variety of play zones that involve the senses to help boost creativity and development in the little ones.

Nine zones including experiential and laidback corners

UFOREA might just have every visitor thinking it’s an attraction solely for photo ops with just how unique its play zones are. For starters, the Cosmic Exploration Experience Zone has a futuristic space-themed playground set with slides emerging from “planets” and “orbits”, while the Dazzling Light Fantasy Zone has a light-up bubble pool.

Likewise, the Brave Adventure Challenge Zone and Discovery Trampoline let the kiddos challenge themselves on a rock climbing wall and bounce on nets stretched out from structures of massive, orange-tinged mushrooms.

Beyond the play zones, there are more experiential zones to entertain the young’uns once they’ve had their time on the slides and climbing walls.

There’s the Fairytale Dress-Up Experience where aspiring princes and princesses can dress to the nines in costumes provided by UFOREA, and the Interactive Educational Supermarket which is a realistic grocery store set-up for role-playing activities.

As for chill zones, the Joyful Reading & Play Area is a cosy library with reading materials on shelves and a step seating area with plush cushions. This zone is perfect for the grown-ups seeking comfort while the little one plays, or for any child who prefers more laidback activities.
