24,599 new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, 26th August

Malaysia recorded over 17,000 new Covid-19 cases in the country just three days ago, on 23rd August 2021. However, the number of infections is on the rise yet again, with 24,599 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the country on 26th August, as reported by Kementarian Kesihatan Malaysia.

It’s the highest daily figure reported in the country since the start of the pandemic.

Number of cases in KL drop by over 200

Today’s total of 24,599 new Covid-19 cases sees Selangor taking top spot as the state with most cases nationwide yet again – with 6,936 cases reported on 26th August.

Following after are the states of Sabah (3,487), Johor (2,785), Penang (2,078), Sarawak (2,024), Kedah (1,538), Kelantan (1,312) and Perak (1,170), with high number of infections recorded too.

Meanwhile, KL sees slight improvements, with 881 new cases today compared to yesterday’s total of 1,128 cases.

The only areas with daily cases falling below the 100s are Labuan (3), Putrajaya (20) and Perlis (67).

The total of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 1,640,843, with the addition of today’s 24,599 new cases.

Today’s cases is also the highest daily figure ever reported in the country since the start of the pandemic, and the first time daily cases breached the 24,000 mark.

It beats out the previous daily high of 23,564 new cases reported on 20th August 2021, less than a week ago. The recorded daily number of infections today is also nearly 2,000 cases more than the number reported yesterday at 22,642. To be exact, it’s 1,957 cases more.

As of yesterday, 25th August at 11.59PM, 32,635,907 individuals in the country have received at least one vaccine dose, as reported by JKJAV. Of this total, 13,842,928 (42.4%) are fully vaccinated, with two vaccine doses received, while another 18,792,979 (57.5%) have been administered one vaccine dose.

24,599 new Covid-19 cases, 26th August, sets a new record

More businesses are now allowed to resume operations and serve the fully vaccinated against Covid-19. However, with cases still yet to drastically decline in the country, we should remain mindful of SOPs and limit our outdoor excursions to help the fight against the pandemic – which has dragged on for over a year and a half now.
