First Look At The Newly Reopened MUJI Mid Valley With The First-Ever Gelato Counter & Alteration Services

MUJI reopens in Mid Valley Megamall

If you’ve visited Mid Valley Megamall recently, you’ll find the lights off and doors closed to MUJI’s prominent outlet on the 3rd floor. But there’s no need to worry if you can’t get enough of their stationery and minimalist clothes.

The outlet just relocated to a larger space in the mall, with new corners that are a first for the brand in the country: a gelato counter and alteration services.

Here’s a first look at the new store, which officially opens on 11th October 2024.

What to find at the reopened MUJI at Mid Valley Megamall

MUJI

You’ll no longer have to trek to the 3rd floor to find MUJI in Mid Valley. They’re more easily accessible from their new ground floor location in the mall, past Ben’s Cafe and facing the set of escalators in South Court.

MUJI stationery
The store carries the same staple MUJI products, from stationery to lifewear and home goods.

The previous store boasted a respectable 10,872 square feet. Their new store has now doubled in size, with the expanded space covering 22,187 square feet to hold even more MUJI products and three new services at the outlet – a coffee bar, gelato counter, and alteration corner.

Coffee bar

MUJI coffee

The coffee bar is similar to the one at their 1 Utama outlet. Find dedicated baristas behind the counter whipping up drinks such as Cafe Latte (RM9.90) and Americano (RM7.90), as well as a new addition to the menu – the Matcha Latte (RM10.90). The drink is for those who prefer their matcha on the lighter side – slightly bitter and satisfyingly smooth on the tongue.

The drinks are served hot and cold, with the option to swop out the regular dairy milk for oat milk at just a small additional fee of RM1.

Pastries at MUJI

Just next to the cashier is a selection of fresh bakes and cakes behind a glass case. If you need a carb to recharge with, there are all the classics like French Butter Croissant (RM9) and Ham & Cheese Danish (RM14), while the Naked King, Classic Chocolate, and Carrot cakes (RM15/slice) are for those who can’t resist a sugary treat while shopping.

Gelato counter

There’s also the Gelato counter next to the coffee bar, which shoppers can head to and treat themselves to even more desserts.

Six gelato flavours are ready to be scooped up by friendly staff upon order: Matcha, Houjicha Mochi, Double Chocolate, Biscoff, Strawberry, and Durian. There’s also a sorbet option for a more icy, refreshing scoop, Yuzu. A scoop is priced from RM8.90, with just the Durian and Yuzu going for RM10.90.

We tried the Houjicha Mochi, which has bits of boba-like mochi and a mild tea taste, and the pungent Durian which carries the distinct aroma and taste of the fruit but in gelato form.

Alteration services

Those who struggle to find the perfect ‘fit, especially when purchasing bottoms, can take a breather with the new outlet’s in-house alteration services catered for all your bottom purchases – whether it’s that skinny-fit jeans or long and sleek bottom-cut pants.

You can also jazz up your MUJI purchases with the store’s in-house embroidery services, with prices starting from RM15.

The service is free for MUJI shoppers. You can head to the Customer Service counter to have your threads shortened.

MUJI Food corner

If gelato and coffee aren’t enough to fuel you up, check out the food section at the new outlet. MUJI just launched a new Halal-certified Salted Egg Salmon Fish Skin (RM16.90), which will become your next pantry staple. Salted egg-rich crispy salmon skin, further flavoured and textured with curry leaves and chilli, will have you licking your fingers after reaching the bottom of the packet.

Just next to the gelato counter, you’ll find a row of refrigerated goods. They include tub versions of the gelatos and an additional flavour that you can only get from the fridge – Mango. These are priced the same as you would get them from the counter – the only difference is that you can buy one of them and enjoy them from your couch during those Netflix binges.
