KL Tower to temporarily close from 17th April
While Kuala Lumpur has plenty of newer skyscrapers, the KL Tower stands as an OG modern architectural icon – the skyline wouldn’t be the same without its presence. It’s an unmissable attraction in the city, with several observation areas and a revolving restaurant on its top floors.
From 17th April 2025 onwards, the telecommunications structure will be temporarily closed until further notice, so any upcoming trips here will need a raincheck. The closure is to allow for maintenance and improvement works by a new management team.
Closures for maintenance & improvement works
The Ministry of Communications announced on Facebook that the operations, management, and maintenance of KL Tower have been taken over by LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd (LSHSM) effective 1st April. This transition follows the end of the previous management concession held by Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB) on 31st March.
The KL Tower will hence be temporarily closed to visitors from 17th April, Thursday.

The change in management of KL Tower reportedly led to a dispute, as MKLSB continued to occupy the premises beyond the expiration of their concession. The Federal Lands Commissioner is said to have issued two eviction notices to them on 3rd and 9th April. The KL Tower is owned by the Government of Malaysia, with management and maintenance managed by an external company appointed by the government.
According to a report from The Star dated 1st April, the transfer of the KL Tower concession to a new management was because concessions are given on a 10-, 15-, or 30-year period. When a term has ended, offers are reopened to companies. A new concession for 20 years was slated to start on 1st April.
No changes to operation or employees
As KL Tower serves as an important telecommunications structure and attraction in the city, the Ministry of Communications has assured that the concession takeover will not affect the tower’s operations or employees. They are working with LSHSM to ensure that operations will continue as usual and that existing workers will have a job under the new management.

Earlier on 15th March, Menara KL announced on Instagram that one of their observatory areas, the Sky Box 2, and their popular Tower Walk 100 would be closed until further notice for maintenance and safety works.
KL Tower to temporarily close, reopening date to be announced
An exact reopening date of the KL Tower has not been announced yet. But the government shared in a statement that this will be announced through various media channels once maintenance works are completed.
