Japan’s Saizeriya to open in Malaysia
Having Italian food for a meal in Malaysia can be a pricey affair when compared to dining on Asian grub. Pastas and pizzas don’t exactly come cheap. But then there are spots like Saizeriya, a huge chain from Japan that’s popular among families and budget travellers for serving affordable pastas and pizzas.
In an announcement, the restaurant revealed that they have their sights on Malaysia, and is aiming to open their first store in the country.
What is Saizeriya?
Founded by Yasuhiko Shogaki in Ichikawa City in 1967, Saizeriya made a name for themselves by delivering cheap and guilty-pleasure Italian mains with a Japanese flair. The wallet-friendly menu prices are the kicker at their restaurants – most of the pastas and pizzas on their menu are priced under ¥1000, roughly RM28 after conversion.

They now operate over 1,600 outlets worldwide, with their first overseas store located in Shanghai. In 2008, they expanded into Taiwan and Singapore, and Vietnam this May. Malaysia will be their next stop.

Their first outlet in Malaysia
On 19th August 2025, it was reported by Japanese media Nikkei that Saizeriya Co., Ltd is setting up a dedicated Malaysian subsidiary to bring their delicious offerings to our shores by September 2025. With this venture, Saizeriya is making a significant direct investment of approximately ¥300 million, or around RM8.5 million.
Although there is no mention of a planned location, targeted opening date, or expected outlet numbers for their Malaysian expansion, it’s expected that Saizeriya will adapt to local tastes while proudly serving its iconic menu offerings at the outlet.
