Sando-Icchi at Publika Shopping Gallery, KL
Sure, the beauty of a sandwich is its grab-and-go appeal – bread acting as a neat envelope for vegetables, eggs, and meats, all to be eaten one-handed on a bus or while typing an email. But at Sando-Icchi, convenience isn’t the point.
This new sandwich shop’s beef sandos demand you sit down, lean in, and surrender to the mess. You’ll have meat juices running down your fingers, glistening like some supreme, beef-scented hand cream. And you’ll think about them for days after, the way a good meal haunts you.
“No.1 Beef Sandwich Shop” in town
The space and menu are both concise at Sando-Icchi. Just six sandwiches (from RM16.80) are served from a small but efficient shop that has just a handful of tables and seats. But being extensive is never the goal. Being impactful is.
The sandos here feature grilled beef, steak, fried ebi shrimp, and scrambled eggs. Each of them lands like a full meal in itself: unapologetically hefty and flavourful.
Big-Size Felix Steak Sandwich
Their signature Big-Size Felix Steak Sando (RM28.80) has thick, juicy chunks of medium-rare steak tucked between butter-toasted milk bread, dressed in black pepper sauce – free of greens.
The owner shared with us that this sando was inspired by a steak sandwich he had in Japan.
And we. Loved. It.
The steak was blushing pink in the middle and looked like it might fight back with chew, but it was perfect to bite into. That smoky meat flavour and rich black pepper taste playing against the gentle sweetness of the bread…this sando earned a moment of silence from us because we had to honour its existence.
Peanut Butter Double Beef Bacon Cheese Sandwich
Here comes a sinful combo with big American energy: Peanut Butter Double Beef Bacon Cheese Sandwich (RM28.80). One slice of the bread is slathered with peanut butter, the other with cheese.
Each bite was decadent, stacked with smashed beef patties and bacon, while caramelised onions slipped in some sweetness.
Halfway through, we did catch ourselves longing for something pickled to cut through the richness. But this sandwich is built to be proudly carnivorous, and we respected that.
Fried Shrimp Sandwich
Despite the temptation to go for another beef sando, we decided to try something non-beef and with a bit of veggies: Fried Shrimp Sandwich (RM20.80). While it was not as wild as the signature steak, it was still delicious.
The shrimps tasted fresh with a bouncy texture, and their golden batter shattered under the gentlest bite. A swipe of mayonnaise and cucumbers turned the flavours up a notch.
Hefty steak sandwiches at Sando-Icchi in KL
Sando-Icchi is not here to cover every base – certainly not the everyday sandwiches you can get anywhere. They’re here to make the stuff you couldn’t find, and they nail it. Seriously, meat lovers will adore this place.
If it’s your first time here, don’t just order a takeaway. Tasty food like this deserves to be savoured the moment it hits the table.
