Free online language classes by the Selangor government
Malaysians, you can now learn how to say “Hi” in languages beyond your native one, without spending a cent. Starting in 2026, the Selangor state government will begin offering free online language classes as part of its initiative to bolster multilingual skills and promote unity among Malaysians.

Free language classes in this economy? Yes please.
The Selangor state government’s free online language classes, you can now learn up to six different languages. The language classes offered for free in the programme are Mandarin, Arabic, German, Tamil, French, and Spanish.
Malaysians can sign up for the free online classes on Selangor Public Library Corporation’s, or Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Selangor (PPAS), website sometime in January 2026.

The online language class programme started during the Covid-19 pandemic with the Selangor Public Library Corporation and language centres. Students had to fork out RM10 per class.
If you can’t wait, you can sign up for language classes as low as RM10 per class here. Besides the aforementioned language classes, the language programme also covers Uyghur, Thai, Turkish, Russian, Italian, and Japanese.
Selangor rolls out free online language classes to boost multilingualism
With how globalised the world is becoming each day, learning a new language would certainly help increase work opportunities. Here’s hoping this initiative can be extended nationwide to foster an interest for learning new languages in our already multilingual society.
