% Arabica Opens New Futuristic Outlet In KL That Looks Like A Sci-Fi Coffee Lab

% Arabica opens new KL outlets

The alarm clock may serve as a wake-up call, but it is coffee that truly gets the gears turning. Caffeine addicts queueing up for their morning coffee at a nearby cafe can attest to this.

On future trips to The Exchange TRX and Pavilion Damansara Heights, you can grab your daily cup of joe from one of Japan’s most popular coffee shops – % Arabica. They’ve opened two new outlets at the malls, following their first store in Malaysia at Pavilion KL.

Besides grabbing a pick-me-up, you’ll want to whip out your phone too, as the TRX outlet in particular boasts the store’s eye-pleasing signature all-white concept with an added touch of the futuristic.

A futuristic cylindrical laboratory concept

% Arabica has 188 and counting stores in more than 16 countries. Their latest outlets in Malaysia’s capital city, that are now open on the Concourse level of TRX and Level 3 at Pavilion DH, feature minimalist all-white dining spaces.

Overhead, there’s the coffee shop’s other signature decor feature – Chemex coffee makers that hang like fairy lights to make up a chandelier.

Though similar in tones, the two outlets have distinct concepts.

The TRX outlet features a cylindrical storefront that commands attention – it looks like a laboratory straight out of a sci-fi film. There’s also a 360 degree coffee counter.

The store is also located right at the entrance of the TRX MRT Station, so you can have your coffee to-go.

Meanwhile, the Pavilion DH outlet exudes a standard yet chic coffee shop vibe. It looks similar to the Pavilion KL branch with its 6m-tall glass facade. But this new outlet was designed to look like a grotto, with a cave-like dining space that has step-like walls and ceiling that were inspired by a KL landmark – Batu Caves.

In terms of space, the branch at Pavilion DH has more seating spots, so head here if you’re looking for a new coffee date spot.

What to order at % Arabica

The menu at % Arabica is pretty straightforward – have your choice of coffee drinks or pastries, or both.

You can opt for single origin or blend beans depending on your desired coffee strength. Among the coffee beans featured, you’ll find options such as Colombia Hulla Monteblanco #1 – with tasting notes of Cape gooseberry, papaya, and white chocolate peach – and Indonesia East Java Mount Arjuno, which has hints of peach, raisins, and molasses.

You can choose from cup sizes that range from 4oz to 12oz – we recommend starting with a smaller cup if you’re uncertain about the flavour profile. Additionally, you can swop out the regular dairy milk for alternatives, oat or almond milk.

In terms of pricing, the coffee from this spot might be slightly pricier. But if you’re looking to sample a slice of the famed Japanese coffee culture, it’ll be a well-worth it experience.

A classic Hot Americano is priced at RM14.80/8oz, while a Iced Dark Latte is priced at RM20.80/12oz. For something creamier, the % Soft Cream (RM12/4oz) or % Matcha Soft Cream (RM18/8oz) are worth trying.

As for pastries, you can pair your coffee with freshly baked treats such as Pain au Chocolat (RM14), the crowd-pleasing Canele (RM12), and Almond Croissant (RM14).

For serious coffee drinkers, you can also purchase bags of coffee beans to enjoy at home. For instance, the Guatemala Antigua Cuxinales, offering flavours of red apple and dark chocolate, can be purchased at RM120/200g.
