Mother finds out her baby was switched at the hospital
Giving birth to a child can be a painful experience for most women. But what’s even more painful is to find out that your child was actually switched at birth hours after you get back home from the hospital.Â
That was the case for 23-year-old online businesswoman Siti Suriani Wahiddin, who also goes by Siti Jamumall. She recently had to go through the painful process of exchanging her baby that was swopped at the hospital with another woman.

On 12th June 2021, Siti shared her painful experience in a Facebook live video that was over an hour long. She spoke about how she found out that the baby she brought home wasn’t hers, and about her journey driving back to the hospital to sort out the matter.
As reported by Sinar Harian on the same day, Siti gave birth to a baby boy on Friday, 11th June 2021, at a private hospital in Shah Alam – where, as she later found out, her baby was swopped with another.Â
Shortly after returning home from the hospital, Siti found out that the baby wasn’t hers when her husband came across another woman’s name, Diana Hanani, on a tag on the baby’s leg.
Realising the mistake, the couple then rushed back to the hospital to retrieve their own child.
“I was nervous and shocked after seeing another woman’s name on the tag on the baby’s leg. I’m not sure how this (switching of babies) could have happened.
“The tag on the baby’s leg has the mother’s name and the time of birth. It was 3.02PM, 10th June 2021 (Thursday), but I gave birth at 2.30AM yesterday,” she told Berita Harian.

During her Facebook live video, which has now garnered 3.9 million views, 64,000 reactions and 71,000 comments, Siti also shared her journey driving back to the hospital to retrieve her own child.
As she was retelling the whole incident, she was seen bursting into tears while reading comments from netizens who consoled and supported her with encouraging words.
According to the Harian Metro, Siti then returned the baby to his real mother, Diana Hanani, who had also given birth to a baby boy through a C-section at the same hospital.
Diana told Harian Metro, that she too was shocked to find out that the baby she brought home wasn’t hers when she was contacted by the hospital.
“We went to the hospital right away last night. The exchanging process of the baby took place with a lot of emotions because we were already loving the baby and caring for it like our own,” she said.
It is believed that both Siti and Diana have lodged a police report regarding the incident. They are now seeking to take legal action against the hospital that is responsible for their predicament.
Always be vigilant when it comes to important things
It is extremely unfortunate that Siti and Diana had to go through such a difficult situation especially when times are bad for many.
We hope that their babies will grow in a happy and safe environment for years to come. Meanwhile, we should always remember that identity mix-ups can happen to us as well.Â
So, it’s best to always be vigilant when you are leaving the hospital and make sure that you cross-check medical information at every point of contact to avoid such mishaps.
