It hasn’t been an easy ride at the Paris 2024 Olympics for Malaysia’s badminton men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who bowed out of the semi-finals and gallant fight for gold on 2nd August 2024.

But after a nail-biting final match in the fight for the bronze medal on 4th August, the formidable duo have not only defended their bronze medal – they also proudly secured Malaysia’s first Olympic medal at this year’s Olympics.

Malaysians were all sitting on the edge of their seats while watching the beloved ‘ChiaSoh’ duo battling it out in the bronze medal playoff for badminton men’s doubles.

After two matches that ended in 16-21 and 22-20, the world No. 3 went on to lock horns in a third match with the world No. 2 Danish duo, Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Kim Astrup.

The last closely-fought set saw the Malaysian shuttlers putting up a dazzling show of athleticism, which ended in a remarkable 21-19 win.

The victory sees Chia and Soh defending their bronze medal clinched at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, against Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia in the bronze medal playoff in 2021, with scores of 17–21, 21–17, and 21–14.

The win also marks a jubilant moment for Malaysia, as our nation secures its first Olympic medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. It also officially makes Chia and Soh two-time Olympic medallists.

Back-to-back wins at the prestigious Olympic Games is no easy feat. But Malaysia’s brilliant badminton men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, have proven that Malaysia certainly boleh with their recent Paris 2024 Olympic bronze win.
