Chicken & Beer: Juicy Fried Chicken, Egg-Shaped Toilets & A Top-Floor Club In PJ

Chicken & Beer in Damansara Uptown, PJ

Fans of K-dramas will be familiar with chimaek. The iconic chicken-and-beer pairing is practically a paid actor in series like Crash Landing On You and My Love From Another Star. Now, Malaysia has its own spin on this beloved food duo, thanks to Chicken & Beer in Damansara Uptown.

You can’t debone the Malaysian-style fried chicken at this new restaurant in town like you would with Korean fried chicken. The pieces are so hefty, you’ll want to hold them with more than two fingers. It’s also seasoned well with the restaurant’s special CB Savoury & Fiery spices – spice kakis in Malaysia will definitely approve of it.

Three-storey fried chicken joint with egg-shaped toilets

You might wonder why a fried chicken joint needs to take up three floors when that’s all they serve just as we did.

As it turns out, the top floor of the restaurant houses The Phuck Club, which opens on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm till late. Diners can vibe to DJ performances while sipping whisky and munching on caviar chicken nuggets (RM100) – a combo that’s equal parts wild and bougie.

Adding to the exclusivity, this club operates by reservation only.

But the first two floors are totally family-friendly, with a retro charm bathed in a neon red glow that feels straight out of an American fast food chain from the ’80s.

The 1st floor, in particular, features an escalator photobooth and egg-shaped toilets that beg to be Instagrammed. It’s 2025 – people really are taking pictures with the toilets now.

Fried chicken and award-winning beers

While the food menu at Chicken & Beer is all about fried chicken – enjoyed on its own, or with waffles, sambal curry rice, or Indomie – they also offer burgers.

To pair with these are beers, available in alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, and by glass (from RM23) or a set of three (from RM68). If you’re not a fan of beers, there are milkshakes and soft drinks to consider.

CB Golden Crispy

The signature CB Golden Crispy (RM19.90) comes with fries and coleslaw, alongside additional seasonings like pepper and chilli flakes. If you want the spicy version, the CB Red Hot is seasoned with the same spice mix but with additional chillis to leave some serious sting on your tongue and lips.

As we tore into the chicken, juices dripped as though the chicken was still alive and sweating. The meat, still piping hot, released trails of steam.

The chicken skin was perfectly crispy without the sharp edges that could scrape our tongue. While the meat was flavourful on its own, it truly shone when paired with a bite of the skin, offering a satisfying contrast of crispy exterior and tender interior.

CNB Chicken Burger

The CNB Chicken Burger (RM23.90) is picturesque like an emoji, sandwiching a thick piece of deep-fried chicken chop, melting cheese, and lettuce between lightly toasted brioche buns.

Knives and forks were provided, but we knew this should be a hands-on experience. We stretched our jaws and bit into the burger, and to our surprise, it was a clean bite with no mess. The seasoning of the chicken chop was on-point, complemented by a subtle tang from the ranch sauce – all the better to pair with the sweet, buttery buns.

Chicken Poppers

Among the list of shareable snacks is the Chicken Poppers (RM10.90). These morsels of minced chicken are deep-fried to a nice golden brown. The batter was light, offering a crispy-soft texture that let us sink our teeth into the meat more than the crust.

Alongside, there are ranch sauce and sambal for dipping. The sambal was very delicious. We ended up also adding it to our burger and fried chicken.

Coco Waffle

After all the hearty, savoury fried goodness, Coco Waffle (RM11.90) hit us differently. The warm waffles, the cold and creamy ice cream, and the aromatic blend of gula melaka and coconut flakes created a harmony of flavours and textures that we knew would make all age groups grin.
