This Free Art Exhibition In KL Features 16 Artists & Dynamic Pieces From Sculptures To Prints

Culture Shock art exhibition at CzipLee

Art lovers, get ready to challenge your perception and spark your imagination.

Kuala Lumpur’s latest pop-up art exhibition Culture Shock is now on till 12th January 2025. Hosted by Penang-based art collective Cultprint, the group art show features 16 artists and their contemporary artworks that capture a collision of cultures in and around the region.

Over 50 artworks by prominent creatives

Bangsar’s stationery haven CzipLee has been revamped into a temporary gallery space to host the free-admission Culture Shock. Curated by Ernest Zacharevic, the group art exhibition has an impressive roster of artists who bring a dynamic and high-energy visual smorgasbord to the walls.

Over 50 artworks are currently on show, with prominent creatives like Bibichun, Cloakwork, TAZONE, and Kenji Chai among the lineup. Treat your eyes to a feast of art in a diverse range of media, including multi-coloured prints and site-specific art installations that are as bold as they are playful.

2 floors of artworks, including the playful and the profound

On the ground floor of the exhibition space, visitors can contemplate eclectic artworks such as Bono Stellar’s mind-bending Quantum – a multidimensional mirror piece that completely draws you in.

Linger for a bit to absorb all the reflections and colours that shift and change, evolving with every step you take.

There are also scaled-down print replicas of Zacharevic’s murals that were featured at the George Town Festival in 2012, for visitors to experience all the iconic pieces in one space.

Sheena Liam, who goes by the moniker Times New Romance, has her signature elegant and demure figure studies on show. They include Figure Study Triptych and Insomnia, printed on archival Hahnemühle German Etching Paper. Her featured works delve into personal experiences, offering a relatable insight into human connection and the restless mind.

The vibe shifts from playful to pensive on the second floor, bringing visitors into a deeper level of introspection through subtle storytelling. Here, works such as Trina Teoh’s Lust invite you to explore the profound and thought-provoking narratives behind each piece.

Another highlight is Spanish sculptor Isaac Cordal’s haunting Follow the Leaders – a collection of miniature figurines perched on cement blocks that have to be seen up close. Each and every figure serves as a silent critique of society’s blind march forward – a concept steeped in irony.

As a whole, it is a work that echoes the artist’s powerful message and beckons the viewer to ponder.
