Malaysians have been engaging in all sorts of funny activities during the COVID-19 outbreak to keep entertained while staying at home. And it’s the least that we all can do while hospital staff are working around the clock to help combat this pandemic in Malaysia.
To show appreciation for those at the front lines of it all, the Queen Consort Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has been personally cooking meals and sending them to hospital staff to help keep their spirits up. Others such as Nasi Kandar Pelita and McDonalds also joined in the initiative by giving out free food to those on the front lines.

Not many may know, but our current Queen Consort is actually a passionate foodie. She’s published a cookbook called Air Tangan Tengku Puan Pahang and Masakan Tradisional Pahang, and has even hosted dinner parties for palace guests with her own cooking.
This is why it’s not a surprise to see that she has cooked comfort Malay food for hospital staff at Sungai Buloh Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Even workers at National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) received her dishes, all in a single day on 22nd March 2020.

She posted a series of photos on her official Instagram page of what she had sent over, including boxes of Nasi Goreng with Sambal Tumis, Ayam Goreng Kunyit and even cupcakes.
And with a photo of hospital staff enjoying much-deserved home-cooked meals, she sent her well-wishes to them in an Instagram post saying that it was the least she could do for government servants who were sacrificing their lives.
In the past, Tunku Azizah has also shared her love for cooking with communities, such as prison inmates back in 2018 as reported by The Star.

While we’re all longing for our regular lepak sesssions at local mamaks, we still have takeouts and deliveries to satiate our cravings for teh tarik and roti canai. But hospital staff don’t have the same time on their hands as we do, and so Nasi Kandar Pelita brought the mamak to them on 22nd March 2020 – sending over nasi bungkus and air limau ais to those working on the front line to show their appreciation for them.
They are currently doing the same for police officers, who are currently working to ensure that Movement Control Order is in place to help curb the spread of COVID-19, from their branches that remain open for takeout.

McDonalds also made sure to send everyone’s guilty pleasure of burgers and fries to hospital workers at Kuala Lumpur Hospital so no one will miss a meal through Program Komuniti McDonald’s and Ronald McDonald’s House Charities. They showed up with a trolley of Happy Meal-like boxes to bring a much-needed smile and taste of the familiar to those working long shifts at the hospital.
Community gives free food to hospital workers
With several medical staff and civil workers being recent casualties of COVID-19, we’re glad to see the community stepping up to the plate and making sure that they are well fed while helping us fight the virus on the front line.
To help them further, we can do the best that we can to help them right now, even if it just means staying at home and being on the lookout for COVID-19 symptoms to help flatten the curve.
