Travellers heading to the popular Genting Highlands will soon experience a slight change in travel costs. Genting Malaysia Berhad has recently confirmed that vehicles embarking on the route up to this renowned hilltop destination will be required to pay a toll fee.
Toll implementation to ensure road user safety
Speculation about toll charges being implemented on the road up to Genting Highlands has been circulating online since 2023, beginning with the construction of a toll plaza spotted on the Batang Kali-Gohtong Jaya road. The news garnered attention from regular travellers and weekend tourists, as the destination is one of the top attractions in the country.
The highland road was reportedly constructed by Genting Malaysia Bhd in the mid-1960s, with roadworks, maintenance, and upkeep maintained by Lingkaran Cepak.

On 13th November 2025, it was confirmed by Genting Malaysia Bhd in a press statement released that they will proceed to charge road users entering Jalan Genting Highlands. The 24km private road connects travellers to main attractions in Genting Highlands, including Resorts World Genting.
However, no date for when the toll will come into effect has been announced yet.

The company has maintained that the toll fee implementation is necessary for the road’s upkeep and road users’ safety, with escalating costs due to its steep inclines and heavy usage leading to wear and tear.
