From unique temples and colonial schools to historic lighthouses, there are certainly plenty of awe-inspiring structures in Malaysia. Over in Melaka, a state steeped in history, there will be a new structure set to join the ranks of remarkable landmarks and attractions there – the Karl Lagerfeld Tower.
This architectural marvel will be part of a collection of nine linked towers in The Sail Melaka, with spaces reserved for business, entertainment, and leisure. It’ll feature the first Karl Lagerfeld hotel in Southeast Asia, and the first in Malaysia, once it opens its door in the near, foreseeable future.

Developed by Sheng Tai International, the Karl Lagerfeld Tower featuring a Karl Lagerfeld Hotel will be built within The Sail Melaka, an upcoming 27.5-acre development situated in the Melaka Waterfront Economic Zone in Kota Laksamana. It resembles a regal fleet of ships and comprises nine glossy towers linked via a 330-metre long sky ring.

It’ll also be home to the first Karl Lagerfeld hotel in Southeast Asia, with just one other The Karl Lagerfeld hotel with 271 rooms and suites located in Macau. The latter took nine years to complete, and was designed by the late Lagerfeld himself who sought to bring to life a “Europe meets China” concept for the 5-star hotel.
There has yet to be an official opening date announcement for the hotel in Malaysia, but The Sail Melaka is scheduled for full completion in 2033.

The grand opening ceremony of The Sail Melaka took place at Melaka’s famed Encore theatre, with notable figures such as the Chief Minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and the Chief Executive Officer of Karl Lagerfeld, Pier Paolo Righi in attendance.
According to a report by New Straits Times, Ab Rauf emphasized the significance of this pioneering project not only for Sheng Tai International and Karl Lagerfeld, but also for the historical state of Melaka and the community at large. He added that this innovative venture would enhance the city’s tourism industry and establish it as a thriving metropolis in the region, with the Karl Lagerfeld Tower in particular set to transform Melaka into a fashion hub.
