MUJI Opens Its First Coffee Counter In Malaysia, Shop For Minimalist Products & Zen Out With Coffee At The 2-Storey Outlet

First MUJI coffee counter in Malaysia

Less is more – if you agree with this sentiment, you’re probably a fan of MUJI. From household and travel items to apparel and snacks, the Japanese lifestyle brand is known for their practical, functional, and understated products.

While it’s not hard to find a MUJI outlet in Malaysia, their newest 2-storey outlet at 1 Utama Shopping Centre has a coffee counter, as well as a plant section and furniture showroom.

New MUJI outlet with a coffee counter

If you’re a regular shopper at MUJI, you’ll be glad to know that they just opened a revamped outlet at 1 Utama Shopping Centre on 20th May 2023. Aiming to become more than just a regular retail store, MUJI has expanded the outlet to make space for more exciting and exclusive concepts – and we’re pretty sure it’s one of the largest outlets in Malaysia.

Besides the new products and services that shoppers can experience at the new store, the coffee counter is a treat for caffeine addicts that has yet to appear at other MUJI outlets in Malaysia.

While the plethora of MUJI stores in Malaysia do offer a vast variety of packaged food products and snacks, there has not been an outlet with an actual in-house cafe that serves drinks and edibles.

The cafe area serves as a perfect place for shoppers to take a break, with a selection of beverages and snacks available behind the counter to refuel on. There’s an enticing array of warm pastries, which are mostly flaky buttery goodness such as French Butter Croissant (RM9), Ham & Cheese Danish (RM14), and Pain Au Choc (RM11).

If you’re looking for some decadent sweets to nudge up your sugar levels, go for their massive slices of cakes (RM15/slice). There are choices such as Naked King Cake, Classic Chocolate Cake, and Carrot Cake. The Lemon Cream Tart (RM13) has the perfect balance of sweet and zesty that’ll give you the energy you need to continue shopping.

Order some robust coffee from their menu which pairs well with their light eats, such as Americano (RM7.90) and Mocha (RM9.90).

Furniture showrooms and a plant section

Besides the cafe, there are other areas that shoppers can look forward to at the new outlet. You’ll find displays of MUJI furniture and other MUJI organising tools to help inspire your home design.

Head over to the embroidery counter where you can personalise your own tote bags, purchase various textiles, and add custom embroideries on selected MUJI apparels for an additional fee.

There’s also a plant section that’ll delight those with green thumbs. This section – called MUJI Green – has a plethora of lightweight and easy-care potted plants that’ll help liven up your house or workspace.

For those with fidgety kiddos, MUJI has got you covered with a kids’ play area. It has play mats and kids’ drawing tools to keep the little ones busy while you shop your heart out.

MUJI, a Japanese-style minimalist lifestyle store

Like every other MUJI store, shoppers can expect to browse the brand’s signature range of minimalist products that embody the brand’s philosophy. Be it light-oak furniture pieces, neutral-coloured garments, Japanese-style kitchenware, or organic snacks, you’ll be able to find everything you need for an effortless, natural, and cosy lifestyle.

The Japanese retailer has three eatery outlets in Singapore called Café&Meal MUJI, which are usually located adjacent to the main retail store. Similar to the brand, the food served at these cafes are simple and balanced.

These menus at these cafes feature full meals, hot and cold deli items, desserts, as well as beverages.
