Luckin Coffee to open in Malaysia

If you just can’t start your mornings without a cup of joe, there’s a new coffee chain to refuel with caffeine in 2025 – the famous Luckin Coffee, also known as the “Starbucks of China”. The coffee chain is expanding to Malaysia after making its overseas debut in Singapore in 2023.

Here’s what we know about it.

For the uninitiated, Luckin Coffee has become a go-to budget-friendly alternative for coffee in China. The Beijing-founded coffeehouse is best known for offering worth-it deals on drinks and a human-interaction-free ordering experience at all their stores – place an order and pay for your drink on a mobile app, and head to a physical outlet to enjoy it there or have it to-go.

As for menu offerings, the Chinese coffee chain utilises fine Arabica beans and cutting-edge Swiss coffee machines to brew their beverages. Find classic coffee drinks such as Americano, Latte, and Flat White brewed with Yirgacheffe single-origin beans that have racked up medals at the International Coffee Tasting Comepetition (IIAC).

Luckin also has unique drinks and collaborations to keep your coffee run interesting.

At their China and Singapore stores, the coffee chain whips up Best Sellers such as Coconut Lattes, Big Cheese Lattes, Yuan Yangs, and Orange Americanos. They’ve also teamed up with brands like Butterbear and Sesame Street to jazz up their cups with special designs and cupholders, and menu with limited-time drink offerings, in Singapore.

Malaysians can expect to find similar offerings.

Not all coffee drinks, the Exfreezo line features drinks ice-blended, creamy concoctions that are available in caffeinated and non-caffeinated flavours such as Matcha and Orange. A standout is the indulgent Dark Brown Sugar Macchiato, made with rich Okinawa dark brown sugar and thick Hokkaido milk.

Over 20,000 stores worldwide

Luckin Coffee’s foray into Malaysia is thanks to a strategic partnership between Hextar Industries Bhd (HIB), via its subsidiary Global Aroma Sdn Bhd (GASB), and Luckin Coffee Holding Singapore Pte Ltd. With exclusive rights secured, plans are brewing for several Luckin Coffee outlets to open in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2025, as reported by The Star.

However, no official opening date or first location has been revealed yet.
