But there’s more than just meets the eye at this coastal town, with spots like Monkey Bay to enjoy nature views away from the crowds.

How to get to Monkey Bay in Port Dickson?

Entrance - A guide to Monkey Bay, Port Dickson

Monkey Bay isn’t exactly located in plain sight. But that’s all part of its charm. Located within Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest, you’ll need to embark on a relatively easy 1km trail – a simple hike with just a bit of breathlessness.

Admission to the forest is RM1, and it’s open daily from 7am to 6pm. There are parking spots right near the entrance, but it’s best to arrive before sunrise to secure a spot, especially on the weekends.

From the main entrance, walk about 15–20 minutes until you see a flight of stairs that leads up to Cape Rachado Lighthouse, Malaysia’s oldest lighthouse. Here, you can take a short break to soak in the views of the waters and admire the historic landmark.

Once you’ve snapped all the pictures that you need, continue on your hike by passing through the entrance to the Bukit Batu Putih trail, which takes around 45 minutes to reach the peak. The journey includes some uphill climbs, but it’s relatively manageable.

A glass deck on this trail is a reward, offering the perfect spot for a rest and more photos. We recommend wearing proper trainers and bringing insect repellent, especially if you have sensitive skin or tend to attract mosquitoes.

The final stretch involves a craggy rock face where you’ll feel a bit like you’re rock climbing. It takes about 5–10 minutes, but with a good grip, you’ll make it to the top. Once up here, you can bask in the beauty of the clear blue waters of the Straits of Malacca.

Tracing back historically, this narrow stretch of water once served as a port for tin exports which gradually turned into a popular ocean destination in Malaysia. Hikers who climb up this trail often capture the best views thanks to its white rocks and uninterrupted views of the ocean.

Secluded spot - A guide to Monkey Bay, Port Dickson

After taking in the views at Batu Putih, you can finally dip into Monkey Bay – a secluded spot with a quiet, almost out-of-Port-Dickson feel. True to its name, it is home to a troop or two of wild monkeys. They’re playful, curious, and occasionally cheeky, so don’t leave food unattended.

To get here, retrace your steps back toward the park entrance. As you descend, look for a path on the left that leads down to this hidden bay.

With soft sand and clear waters, you might spot a few snorkellers enjoying the calm sea and rocky outcrops nearby. There are no big resorts and no noisy jet skis – just the sounds of waves, wind, and monkeys chattering in the trees. And if you’re up for it, bring snacks and a beach mat to enjoy a picnic while you’re there. Just remember to keep the area clean and take your trash home to help protect the pristine waters.
