Nippori Bistro in Petaling Jaya
Potterheads will want to make their move and check Nippori Bistro soon. It’ll be a yes, Ron, yes to visiting the Petaling Jaya restaurant from now till 31st October 2024, as it recently launched a Harry Potter-inspired menu that’ll take you straight to Hogwarts.
Called the Edible Adventures of Mona & Hungry Wizard, the menu features drinks, mains, and desserts. Show up dressed in your Hogwarts house, as the restaurant has dolled up its space with wizard-inspired elements to match its limited-time menu.
The world of wizarding in PJ
Nippori Bistro embraces modern-minimalism in its exterior – think white-washed walls and tinted windows that give off an unadorned charm. But when you visit the Japanese restaurant from now till end-October, you’ll find something a little different about it.
There’s now the presence of four cloth banners hanging from the windows, reminiscent of Harry Potter house flags. There’s also a nod to Platform 9 ¾, with a luggage trolley “dashing” into a bricked wall.
Inside, the restaurant has been given a makeover too, with Harry Potter-inspired decor items placed and hung around the cafe. Overhead, banners inspired by the houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff hang from the ceiling.
Even the glass display case holding the restaurant’s pastries and desserts have been spruced up. A cut-out of the beloved Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry sits over it, while floating candles hover mid-air inside the case.
Potion drinks and Harry’s birthday cake
Now onto the food on the Harry Potter-inspired menu. There are a few options, but what piqued our interest were the drinks and desserts.
Felix Felicis (RM26) was a showstopper. It’s inspired by the movie’s Liquid Luck potion in molten gold, which grants its drinker good fortune. The “potion” at Nippori is a sweet honey-tinged drink, served in a corked potion bottle with dry ice creating puffs of smoke around it. When you pour the drink into a glass, the glitter in it becomes apparent.
Mona’s Birthday Cake (RM38) is also a must try. It’s a nod to Harry Potter’s birthday cake lovingly baked by Hagrid in the movie – misspelt words in green over a bright pink cake and all. Nippori includes a mention of their own beloved icon, Mona Lisa, with green lettering spelling out “Happy Birthday Mona”.
If you are a person who loves desserts, this cake is for you. It’s a stacked chocolate cake with chocolate cream that has Oreo chunks in it.
For something savoury, order the Gryffindor Beef Lasagna (RM48). The dish is cooked in creamy tomato sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese. When you cut the lasagna open and pull it apart with your fork and knife, you can see the layers of stretchy cheese.
Clink glasses with your besties with the iconic Mona’s Butter Beer (RM22). Rest assured, it’s not actually beer, but a fizzy drink crowned with a satisfying cream foam.
