Sanrio Pompompurin 30th Anniversary
Most of us know and adore Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Kuromi from Sanrio. Pompompurin, also affectionately called Purin, is one of Sanrio’s lesser-known, yet just as beloved characters, who has been around since 1996.
This October, the good-natured golden pup dressed in a brown beret is going all out for his 30th birthday with a party-themed pop-up: Sanrio Pompompurin 30th Anniversary.
When and where is the Sanrio Pompompurin 30th Anniversary pop-up?
The pastel-coloured Sanrio Pompompurin 30th Anniversary pop-up takes place at Sunway Pyramid’s Blue Concourse, from 15th October until 1st November 2026. It’ll be almost impossible to miss – there’s a giant cake-shaped installation that periodically blows bubbles at the centre of the festivities.
What to expect at the pop-up
Take photos with Pompompurin
It’s photo spots galore at the pop-up. The first thing most will spot is the huge inflated Pompompurin looming over the mall’s Blue Concourse. The display brings Purin’s dream to be a really big dog to life, so snap away for the ‘Gram.
Hunt for Sanrio characters
The anniversary fun isn’t just contained at the Blue Concourse. Wander around the mall to spot Sanrio characters and take pictures with them.
Here are hints: if you like the big inflated Pompompurin at the pop-up, you can find Kuromi just outside the Blue Entrance. Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll are standing together outside of the Orange Entrance. Just head out to the left, and you’ll spot them outside Padini.
Hop in a ball pit & spot bubbles
Near the Purin display is the Big & Sweet Cake House, where kiddos can take off their shoes and slide down into a colourful ball pit. Just make sure to check if you’re taller than Pompompurin, as there’s a height limit for anyone sliding into the pit.
If you’re at the cake house, be on the lookout for Bubble Party. Every weekend, what seems to be a thousand bubbles will start bubbling from the cake house for 5 minutes at 1.30pm, 5pm, and 7.30pm.
Use giant utensils to pick up fruits
If you’re looking for a challenge, head to Hello Kitty’s Basket of Joy station, where you have to pick up apples or strawberries using a giant utensil: a spoon, a fork, or a pair of chopsticks.
The goal is to place five fruits on top of a giant pie.
Get artsy at a doodle station
Little artists can head straight towards the Doodle with Cinnamoroll station. Here, you can choose between two colouring designs to colour however you’d like.
Shop Sanrio merch
As with any good pop-up, there’s a retail space stocked with all sorts of Sanrio merch. This pop-up has exclusive Japan-imported Sanrio collection items with discounts on electronic items. There’s a stylish Kuromi Bluetooth Speaker (RM279) with a detachable magnetic microphone, and an adorable Pochacco Bluetooth Speaker (RM169) with a surfboard-shaped remote.
Cop an adorable Cinnamoroll keychain (RM28.90), or chic string charm keyrings (RM79.90/each) featuring Hangyodon and Usahana. More practical items like Sanrio-themed stationery are available too, including a Cinnamoroll backpack (RM161.90) and a Hello Kitty padlocked diary (RM29.90).
The plushies of Hello Kitty and Kuromi in leopard-print outfits are almost impossible not to get, but there’s also something for Gudetama and Badtz-Maru fans in the form of plush character keychains (RM43.90/each).
Celebrate Pompompurin’s 30th Anniversary at Sunway Pyramid
