Rapid KL Train Services To Operate 24 Hours In Klang Valley For Merdeka Celebrations, Skip Traffic To See Fireworks

24-hour Rapid KL services for Merdeka celebrations


If you’re planning on catching the countdowns and fireworks for Merdeka Day out in the city, you won’t have to worry about transport afterward. This year, RapidKL is offering non-stop service for its train and bus networks in Klang Valley, so you can enjoy the celebrations till late or early in the morning.

Non-stop rail services & selected bus and ROD routes

Rapid KL announced the extended operating hours for its services on its social media channels on 23rd August 2025. According to the statement shared in a Facebook post, all Rapid KL train services, as well as the Sunway Line BRT, several bus routes, and selected Rapid On-Demand (ROD) zones will operate non-stop from 6am, 30th August, to 11.30pm, 31st August, for the National Day celebrations.

The public is also advised to ensure that their Touch ‘n Go cards have sufficient balance to enjoy uninterrupted journeys on Rapid KL’s services.

The bus routes in Klang Valley that will offer non-stop services during the same period include 20 Rapid KL bus routes in Klang Valley; 15 LRT feeder bus routes on the Kelana Jaya & Ampang / Sri Petaling line; 15 MRT feeder bus routes on the Kajang line; and 50 MRT feeder bus routes on the Putrajaya line.

The six Rapid KL On-Demand routes that will operate through the night, for a small fee of RM1 per journey, are:

  • MRT Putrajaya Sentral – Presint 1 (T508B)
  • MRT Putrajaya Sentral – Presint 11 (T512B)
  • MRT Putrajaya Sentral – PPJ 14 (T513B)
  • MRT Putrajaya Sentral – PICC & Desa Pinggiran Putra (T514B)
  • MRT Putrajaya Sentral – Cybersouth / Dengkil (T591B)
  • CBD Kuala Lumpur (T822B)

Expanded services on Merdeka Eve


In another post, Rapid KL shared that it’ll be extending operating hours for selected Rapid KL, MRT, and LRT feeder bus services for Merdeka Eve celebrations too. These services will operate overnight till the early hours of 30th August, until 4am.

On 30th August, a total of 86 bus routes involving 235 buses will be in operation too, while on 31st August, this number will increase to 100 routes and 308 buses to accommodate the rush of Malaysians celebrating Merdeka.

If you’re planning to head to Putrajaya for the Merdeka weekend festivities and avoid the parking woes, including the Merdeka Day parade, there’ll be a free shuttle bus service between Putrajaya Sentral MRT and Dataran Putrajaya, which will operate from noon on 30th August until 2pm the next day.


Rapid KL to offer 24-hour train service for Merdeka celebrations


Getting around Klang Valley during the Merdeka weekend won’t be that much of a hassle, with rail and bus services operating around the clock for us Malaysians. So if you’re planning to skip the traffic and parking hassles, consider hopping on a train or bus instead.
