Soong Kee Beef Noodle: Highly Rated Beef Noodles Near Petaling Street That’s Been Around For 80 Years

Soong Kee Beef Noodle in KL

Despite the flood of new restaurants around KL’s Petaling Street, a handful of spots with decades of history behind them have managed to stick around.

One of these spots is Soong Kee Beef Noodle. Sitting unassumingly on the convergence of Jalan Tun H S Lee and Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin in the city centre, this beef noodle spot has been serving loyal diners for a whopping 80 years now.

Beef noodles are something of a KL specaility, and Soong Kee Beef Noodle happens to be a spot that locals have been patronising for years now.

The family-owned restaurant, located near Petaling Street, has been in business since 1945. Despite the passing of time, they’ve managed to maintain the same well-loved flavours and quality of each bowl of beef noodles across three generations.

Today, the restaurant stands as an institution visited by regular diners for decades, and also by newer faces just curious to try the raved-about noodles here.

The food at Soong Kee Beef Noodles

Soong Kee Beef Noodle now also serves hearty chicken porridge under Lao You Ji Porridge, but if you’re here for the first time, give their beef noodles a try.

Each bowl of Dry Beef Noodles (from RM12) here consists of egg noodles topped with a generous portion of their special minced beef sauce and choy sum. The sauce is intense – but in a good way. It’s dark, savoury, and most importantly, generously portioned.

Give everything in the bowl a good stir and toss. Chunks of beef cling nicely to the noodles, so each bite is not lacking in flavor. The springy noodles are also served with a bowl of light, yet aromatic, beef broth that has beef slices and beef meatballs.

Another must-try here is the Tripe Beef Noodles (from RM12). Tender beef slices, bouncy beef meatballs, and beef stomach are served in this soupy version of their beef noodles.

It’s a hearty noodle dish that’ll warm the belly with satisfying beefy flavours from the soup to the additional toppings.
