Tomica Store in Kuala Lumpur
If you grew up playing with toy cars, you can now use your hard-earned adult money to reminisce on those times, as toy car brand Tomica has opened its first Southeast Asia store at Toys “R” Us in Kuala Lumpur, at Suria KLCC.
Here’s everything that you need to know about it, including an exclusive Tomica Assembly Factory that lets you customise your very own toy car.
What is Tomica?
For the uninitiated, Tomica is a Japanese toy car brand that is well-known for its line of die-cast toy cars and has been around since 1970. Besides toy cars, Tomica also sells other kinds of palm-sized vehicles, including taxis, buses, trucks, and construction vehicles like cranes and forklifts.
Since December 2024, the toy car company has released more than 10,000 different models, with total sales exceeding one billion cars.
While you can buy the die-cast toy cars straight off the shelves and add them to your collection, Tomica also has the Tomica Factory, or Tomica Assembly Factory. As its name suggests, it lets collectors and car enthusiasts customise a one-of-a-kind toy car, and is usually only available at special Tomica events and expos.
What to expect at the Tomica store in KLCC
As the first Southeast Asia Tomica store, the Tomica store takes up a large space inside Toys“R”Us, which can be found on Level 2 at Suria KLCC. At the store, customers can see an entire display wall lined up with a massive collection of Tomica model vehicles of all sorts, ranging from cars to fire trucks and buses.
Aside from its miniature displays, there is also a Tomica Factory inside the store where you can get up close and personal to watch Tomica cars being customised by customers and assembled by the staff.
This experience lets you pick car components such as chassis, body, windshield, and seat to create your own custom Tomica toy car.
The custom Tomica toy-car building process costs RM45.90, and you’ll be given a form to fill out to select specific car components to personalise your very own Tomica toy car. Customers will be able to choose from a selection of three colours: yellow, blue, and red for the car body, and black, blue, and red for the car seats.
Once assembled by the staff, your personalised car will be presented to you in a Tomica Assembly Factory collectory-keepsake box.
The store is also fully stocked with Tomica model automobiles, some of which are based on Japanese and foreign car manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota, and Lamborghini for those who want specific brand names. The Malaysian store also has three outlet-exclusive special editions: the Lamborghini Urus, the Lamborghini Veneno, and the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport.
Tomica’s first overseas store at Suria KLCC
Anyone in search of a fun activity for the kids or an avid car enthusiast will be pleased to know that there is an official Tomica store right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, so there’s no need to jet off to Japan to get your hands on authentic models.
