Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival With Giant Flowers & A Floating Moon At Kwai Chai Hong’s Latest Installation

Moonlit Blossom at Kwai Chai Hong

Besides the galore of mooncakes that we look forward to during the Mid-Autumn Festival, there are the annual art installations at Kuala Lumpur’s Kwai Chai Hong that arrive too. This year, the landmark alley in KL has been spruced up with oversized osmanthus flowers and a giant floating moon for their Moonlit Blossom installation, which will be around from now till 12th October 2025.

Here are some of the photo ops you can expect.

A luminous moon & oversized osmanthus flowers

Down Kwai Chai Hong’s iconic Red Bridge, past the glow of over 40 flower lanterns that hang overhead, is a huge luminous moon, part of the alley’s latest public art installation, Moonlit Blossom.

Look closer at the “floating” moon, and you’ll find several age-old Mid-Autumn Festival folklore depicted. On one side, there’s the determined Wu Gang and his endless hacking of an osmanthus tree that magically regrows after every chop – a symbol of perseverance and beauty. On the other side, the celestial goddess Chang’e and her companion, the Jade Rabbit, are illustrated, guarding the moon.

Pro-tip: If you want next-level shots of the moon, step onto the bridge and angle your camera upwards to get a shot of it with the lanterns and Merdeka 118 tower.

Strewn throughout the alley are oversized glowing osmanthus flowers, and adorable rabbits cradling mooncakes that’ll be just fun to look at if you’re not busy taking a galore of photos of them.

There are several of these scattered around the alley, so if one is occupied by another shutterbug, you can likely find another one in the vicinity for your photos.

Like with past Kwai Chai Hong installations, the latest art installation is free entry and a thoughtful meditation on history, technology, and imagination. Beyond the photos, you can catch DRUM UP JB perform at the alley on 7th September, at 6pm.
