‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is returning to cinemas in October
Movie buffs who had the opportunity of watching the first Avatar film in cinemas can probably recall just how stunning the James Cameron film was on the big screen. The level of CGI left audiences around the world in awe. The film’s sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, had us just as speechless, too.
The good news is, starting 2nd October 2025, the second part of the five-part series is back in cinemas in Malaysia, at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), for a limited time of one week only.
What to expect with the ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ re-release

The Avatar series is a sci-fi film series directed by the renowned director, James Cameron, who is also known for other iconic films in the 80s and 90s such as Titanic, Aliens, and The Terminator. His impressive construction of Pandora in Avatar pulled audiences into an immersive, otherworldly planet that seemed almost beyond imagination.
The first film racked up an impressive $2.92 billion (~RM12.3 billion) at the box office, and won 92 awards and 131 nominations, according to IMDb. Likewise, the second film, Avatar: The Way of Water, grossed a whopping $2.32 billion (~RM9.78 billion), 73 award wins, and 152 nominations.
In the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water struck the hearts of audiences with the introduction of Jake Sully and Neytiri’s children: Neteyam, Kiri, Lo’ak, and Tuk. In this film, the family seeks refuge with the Metkayina Clan. The introduction of this clan tells the audience the existence of different types of Na’vi tribes all over Pandora.
The trailer of the upcoming third installment of the Avatar series, titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, gives us a sneak peek into a new Na’vi tribe: the Ash People. The film is expected to be released on 18th December 2025. To refresh our memories on what happened last, GSC is rereleasing the second film, which was first released in 2022.
When does ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ return to cinemas in Malaysia?

According to GSC’s Facebook post, Avatar: The Way of Water will be rescreened at GSC and Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX from 2nd October onwards, and for one week only. It’ll be shown in stunning 3D and IMAX 3D formats too, so you can relive the stunning settings of the movie. Seats are likely limited for the entire week. As of now, tickets are not yet available.

A legendary film series in real time
The Avatar series is an ongoing science fiction film series that tells the epic of Jake Sully’s family. Only time could tell when their story ends, which we will find out in the last installment of the series in 2031. Unless, of course, James Cameron decides to confirm the potential of a sixth and seventh film.
For now, we can relive the magic of the second film and gear up for the release of the third.
