Free admission to Seri Negara for Merdeka Day
It’s a day of exploration as Malaysians head into long-weekend mode for Merdeka 2026.
Plenty of activities for Merdeka Day have cropped up. Still, if you want to spend Merdeka Day learning more about and appreciating the nation’s history, head to Seri Negara – it’s open to the public for free on 31st August 2026.
How to redeem the free tickets?

Seri Negara is offering complimentary entry to its galleries for Merdeka Day, on 31st August 2026 only. Walk-ins are welcome, which means that you won’t need to register for anything online or in-person – the doors will be open for all to enter without a ticket.
Tickets to the museum are normally priced from RM8 for Malaysian adults and from RM40 for standard tickets.
The museum is also usually closed on Mondays, but will be specially open on Monday, 31st August, from 10am to 6pm, so visitors can pop by to learn more about Malaysia’s journey towards independence.
While entry is free, the museum will be conducting crowd control, with a maximum capacity of 30 visitors at any one time inside its premises.
What to expect on a visit?

Popularly known as the mansion featured in the movie Crazy Rich Asians, Seri Negara was recently restored as a museum with five galleries covering the history of Malaysia, its people and culture. It’s also where important historic documents in Malaysia were signed and declared, including the 1957 Independence Agreement.
