Things to do in Malaysia this weekend
Another weekend is approaching, bringing more things to do in KL from 19th to 20th September 2026. This week’s lineup includes helping Malaysia attempt a new Guinness World Record, decorating cakes at a picnic, browsing a family-friendly market and catching live music and theatre performances.

1. Kopitiam Festival

Kopitiam Festival is celebrating Malaysia’s coffee-shop culture with familiar local flavours, and an attempt to enter the Guinness World Records. The three-day festival will take over Pavilion Bukit Jalil from 18th to 20th September 2026.
Its main highlight is the challenge for the Most Kopi Tarik Sold in 8 Hours, which invites visitors to purchase a cup and collectively help set a new record for Malaysia. Beyond chasing the title, the festival aims to spotlight the food, stories and sense of community that have made kopitiams part of everyday Malaysian life across generations.

2. Sip & Craft: Clay-Making Workshop

Star Café is pairing clay-making with free-flow drinks for the eighth edition of its Sip & Craft workshop. Coordinated by Luccas Tan, the two-hour session lets participants get hands-on with clay while enjoying unlimited cocktails or mocktails.
All the necessary art supplies will be provided, so participants only need to bring themselves and an idea of what they would like to create. The workshop costs RM130 per person with cocktails or RM90 per person with mocktails.

3. Friends Who Chess: Chess Social 3.0

Friends Who Chess is returning to Mojo Restaurant & Bar KL for the third edition of its Chess Social. Held within the historic Asian Heritage Row, the gathering invites visitors to spend their Saturday evening playing casual rounds of chess with new opponents.
Players of all ages and experience levels are welcome, including complete beginners looking for a less intimidating introduction to the game. There is no advance registration required, as participants can sign up upon arrival. Each participant must purchase at least one item from Mojo’s menu.

4. SHORT+SWEET Film 2026

SHORT+SWEET Film 2026 is bringing eight brand-new short films to klpac this weekend. Each work runs for no more than 10 minutes, giving audiences a chance to experience multiple stories and filmmaking styles within one 90-minute screening.
The shortlisted films are:

As the festival also functions as a competition, audience members can vote for their favourite film to win the Audience Choice Award. The Sunday screening will conclude with a prize-giving ceremony announcing the festival winners.
Aspiring screenwriters can also join a Film Workshop with Anwar Hadi on 20th September. The workshop costs RM10 per person, while tickets to the film screening start from RM25.

5. FOTM: The Film Awakens, A Community Gathering by Zon Tiga

Zontiga KL is gathering film photographers and camera enthusiasts for a full day of sharing sessions, practical camera-care advice and analogue photography. The community event is open to both longtime film shooters and beginners who want to meet other photographers, exchange ideas and learn more about the medium.
The programme includes a film-camera maintenance session with CameraSmallBoy and a talk on exploring film through Lomography with Wan Arman. Attendees can also join the FOTM: What Catches Our Eye Community Photowalk to put what they have learnt into practice around the neighbourhood.
The gathering will also mark the launch of FOTM 2025: The Film Awakens, a new book compiling a year of photographs and stories from the community. Winners of FOTM 2026 Case #02 will receive their prizes during the event.

6. The Little Mess Market

The Little Mess Market is bringing three days of whimsical finds, live music and creative corners to The Five. Centred on the theme Whimsy Mess, the free-entry market will feature a mix of local and international vendors selling clothing, accessories, crafts and other small treasures.
Shoppers can browse brands such as That Messy Gal, Pink & Z, Conique, Ateeka, Bun Bun, Miss Jewel and Some Cute Archive. There will also be a photobooth and dedicated stamp and sticker stations for visitors who want something small to take home. Live music will accompany the market throughout the weekend.

7. Vivaldi’s Ring of Mystery

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is introducing younger audiences to classical music through Vivaldi’s Ring of Mystery, a theatrical symphonic concert combining live orchestral music, acting and storytelling. Led by conductor Gerard Salonga and presented by Classical Kids Live!, the family-friendly production is suitable for children aged four and above.
Set in 18th-century Venice, the story follows an orphan girl searching for clues about her past as a mystery unfolds around a missing Stradivarius violin. The adventure is accompanied by excerpts from more than 25 of Antonio Vivaldi’s works, including The Four Seasons, Violin Concerto in A minor and Guitar Concerto.
Tickets start from RM149, with discounts available for MyKad holders, senior citizens, families and Friends of DFP members. Suite tickets are priced from RM349 per seat and include light refreshments. Tickets can be purchased through the MPO website.

8. The Mori Social: Cake & Picnic

The Mori Social is pairing a cake-decorating workshop with a leisurely garden picnic at Mori House. Participants will receive their own cake to decorate and take home, with all the necessary decorating materials provided during the one-hour session.
Once the workshop ends, ticket holders will receive complimentary access to Mori’s garden, where picnic mats will be provided for those who want to stay and spend the day outdoors. A garden booth will also serve coffee, matcha, juices and hot food for visitors to purchase.
Tickets cost RM65 per person or RM120 per pair, with limited seats available.

9. Ghostbird Coffee’s 11th anniversary

Coffee lovers can head to JAM PJ for Ghostbird Coffee’s 11th-anniversary celebration. The two-day gathering brings together coffee, food, workshops and a community run, alongside public cupping sessions for those keen to expand their palate.
One of the highlights is the AeroPress Malaysia Central Regional Championship, where 116 competitors will battle for the top spot. Visitors can also shop for brewing equipment from Coffee Guru, Minos and Hario, sample syrups by Lesweet and Monin, and grab pastries and pizzas from Contour and Kokalamo.

10. One Moon: A Mid-Autumn Festival & Malaysia Day Celebration

The Campus in Ampang is celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with One Moon, a four-day event centred on culture, creativity and community. Its programme includes an art exhibition, cultural performances, hands-on workshops and a marketplace by Finch Market.
Saturday’s activities range from lion dances and festive drum performances to kids’ lantern-decorating workshops, followed by a lantern walk around The Campus at 8pm. Visitors are encouraged to wear traditional attire for the walk.
On Sunday, visitors can join fan calligraphy workshops, catch a Mid-Autumn performance by The One Fusion Orchestra and attend the One Moon Art Competition’s award ceremony. Workshop places are limited and require advance registration, while the lantern-decorating workshop costs RM8 per participant.
