AstraZeneca vaccinations on 23rd May

AstraZeneca vaccinations were recently made available to Klang Valley residents via opt-in registrations earlier this month, on 2nd May 2021. Showing their initiative to keep themselves and others safe, Malaysians fully booked out all 268,000 registration slots in just over 3 hours.

Come 23rd May, more AstraZeneca vaccination slots will be opened up to the public who want to vaccinate themselves ahead of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme. Priority will be given to senior citizens, and will be available to those residing in Klang Valley, as well as Johor, Penang and Sarawak.

Update: On 21st May, Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, Khairy Jamaluddin, announced that registrations for opt-in AstraZeneca Vaccinations will open at noon, 12PM, as reported by The Star. Online registrations can be made at JKJAV’s official site here

Over a million AstraZeneca doses secured

Malaysia is said to be receiving a million AstraZeneca doses in May, as reported by The Star, which was quoting National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

These doses will be available to those in KL, Selangor, Johor, Penang and Sarawak via opt-in registrations that’s set to open on 23rd May, as announced by Khairy on his official Twitter account.

The extension of these vaccinations to those beyond Klang Valley is said to be due to the rising cases in other states too.

Previously, anyone over the age of 18 could register themselves and get a vaccination appointment.

But for the second round of opt-in AstraZeneca registrations, priority will be given to senior citizens over the age of 60, who are considered to be in the high-risk group.

Nonetheless, Khairy also announced on Twitter that those who registered for the previous round of AstraZeneca vaccinations who have been placed on the waitlist will also get appointments.

Leftover spots, if any, will be subsequently made available to anyone residing in the 5 states on 26th May, as reported by Malay Mail.

To encourage the elderly to get vaccinated, community outreach programmes via district health officers will be carried out alongside online vaccination registrations.

Likewise, vaccinations are on a strict appointment-only basis, and Malaysians without appointments are told not to show up at vaccination centres to see if there are any empty spots.

While many are no doubt anxious about their vaccination appointments and showing up early to avoid missing their time slots, those with appointments are advised to show up only 15-30 minutes prior to their appointments, so they don’t crowd vaccinations centres too.

AstraZeneca vaccinations available in 5 states on 23rd May

Many of us have been looking forward to getting vaccinated to keep ourselves safe from COVID-19, as well as those around us. So opting in for AstraZeneca vaccinations on 23rd May if you missed the first round is one way that Malaysians can contribute to the fight against the virus, and hopefully help bring cases down to new lows in Malaysia too.
