It might be hard to locate Ayamguys, hiding out in Wangsa Maju. This homegrown fast-food brand shares a space with 118 Grinder, an aesthetic retro cafe with pops of warm greens and oranges. Besides the coffee and cakes that the latter offers, you can order Ayamguys’s menu items from the cafe space – which are all inspired by the American classics: burgers, sandwiches, and pancakes.

The showstopper on Ayamguys’s menu is their hefty doughnut sandwiches with crispy chicken thighs tucked between fluffy doughnuts, and two options of glazes that create a explosion of taste in every bite.

There’s the Sneaky Chick (RM20) for spice lovers. It comes with a garnish of a honey garlic glaze and homemade coleslaw that comprises slices of cili padi for that kick that Malaysians love in their food. The other option to try is the Chick Next Door (RM19), with deep-fried chicken topped with a thick coating of cheese and jalapenos slices.

To complete your meal, order some of their sides – there are options such as Krinkle Fries (RM6), Chicken Nacho Fries (RM20), and Ol’ Style Wings (RM15/3 pcs).

If you can’t get enough of the fried chicken, opt to order the Ayamguys Pancakes (RM25).
Stacks of pancakes are topped with Ayamguys’s signature fried chicken, sweet syrup, and butter. This dish is part of their Breakfast menu served until 1pm, with other dishes such as the breakfast special Chicken Egg & Cheese Donut Sandwich (RM16)Â featured.

While burgers and sandwiches are American classics, so are deep-fried sweet treats. You can try a state fair-favourite here – Fried Oreos (RM15) – which sees the popular biscuit deep fried with batter to achieve a crispy exterior, and made extra sweet with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and sprinkle of powdered sugar.
