21,668 new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, 12th August
The government recently announced a relaxation of rules for the fully vaccinated, which was welcomed by those separated from their families and more. But showing that the pandemic has not yet let up in our country is today’s record high Covid-19 case count. On 12th August 2021, Malaysia recorded 21,668 new Covid-19 cases, as reported by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia.
More states recording cases breaching the 2,000 mark
Of the 21,668 new cases recorded today, 12th August, Selangor once again reported the highest number of cases in a state nationwide, with 6,278 new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur, with a total of 2,436 new cases.
Today’s daily figure sets a new record high of confirmed daily cases since the start of the pandemic, as more states are seeing an uptick in cases.
This includes Kedah (2,143) and Sabah (2,052), with cases now surpassing the 2,000 mark. Yesterday, 11th August, Kedah had 1,534 new cases while Sabah had 1,514 new cases.
Other areas with high daily counts today too are Johor (1,706), Penang (1,229), Sarawak (1,216) and Kelantan (972).
Meanwhile, Labuan (11), Perlis (23) and Putrajaya (56) are the only areas in the country where new cases are falling below the 100 mark.

The addition of 21,668 new cases today puts the country’s total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases at 1,342,215.
It’s the current highest daily figure the country has ever recorded, surpassing previous highs recorded on 6th August, with 20,889 new cases, and 11th August, with 20,780 new cases.

One small win for the country is our current vaccination rates, with 25,863,563 individuals in the country now jabbed with at least one vaccine dose. This number has been updated as of 11th August, as reported by JKJAV.
Of this total, 16,347,422 (50.1%) registered individuals in the country have received their first dose, while another 9,516,141 (29.1%) have received both vaccine doses.
Yesterday, 11th August, saw an addition of 497,352 individuals who got vaccinated.

Each new day seems to bring another record daily figure in Malaysia, as seen with today’s high of 21,668 new Covid-19 cases. With cases and variants emerging in our communities, and the recent spike in cases, we are reminded once again to keep our outdoor excursions to a minimum.
