This Canopy Walkway In KL Has A 50m High Watchtower With Unblocked Views Of The City Skyline & Forest

FRIM’s Forest Skywalk in Kepong Botanic Gardens

There are plenty of adventurous activities to check out in Kuala Lumpur if you’re looking to unplug and unwind in nature. While hiking is possible even in the heart of the city, there’s the jaw-dropping Forest Skywalk at Kepong Botanic Gardens for thrillseekers.

This steel canopy walk operated by the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) towers 50m-high over a sea of trees below, with multiple watchtowers that offer some of the best views of the KL skyline. Read on to discover more about this nature gem in KL.

What is Forest Skywalk?

There’s no better way to honour our homeland than to take in the wonder of its beauty. And that’s exactly what you can do on the Forest Skywalk, or Jejantas Rimba, which opened on Merdeka Day in 2020, at Kepong Botanic Gardens inside FRIM.

The KL attraction is situated on the fringes of the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve, which is home to a variety of insects and birds, and also notably long-tailed macaques and black giant squirrels. It is made up of eight bridges that form a 250m-long suspended walkway, built with aluminum and reinforced with steel tubes.

Eleven watchtowers ranging from 18m to 50m are accessible from the steel walkway, with the tallest one scaling high above the forest, 141m above sea level.

Built in a rectangular shape, the Forest Skywalk lets you enjoy a bird-eye view of the greenery below and all around. Those with adventurous bones in their bodies can take it to the next level by scaling the 50m watchtower, where panoramic views of KL await at the top of the structure.

Only six individuals will get to climb each watchtower at a time for safety reasons, with a total of 40 visitors allowed on the walkway for each 30-minute slot. But you’ll hear little complaints from thrillseekers, as you’ll get to take photos of landmark buildings as far as 30km away without bumping into shoulders for the snap.

Spot prominent KL structures like KLCC, KL Tower, and the Tun Razak Exchange Tower, alongside lush trees from the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve.

Once on the skywalk, it’ll take you around 30-40 minutes to complete the loop.

Admission fees for Forest Skywalk

Visitors will have to pay an extra RM5 if you have a MyKad and RM10 if you don’t to access the watchtower. This fee is in addition to Forest Skywalk’s entry fee, which are:

  • Senior citizens: RM10 with MyKad, RM40 without a MyKad
  • Students aged 7 to 17: RM8 for Malaysians, RM10 for non-Malaysians

Do note that there is also a small admission fee of RM1 per person for those 12 years and above to enter Kepong Botanic Gardens. Tickets to the Forest Skywalk can be purchased online here.

Children below the age of 13 are not permitted to go up to the watchtower, while those below 7 are not allowed on the Forest Skywalk altogether, so you will have to exclude the little ones from this activity. Visiting hours are 8.30am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 3.30pm, from Saturdays to Thursdays. The skywalk closes on Fridays for maintenance.
