Forest Skywalk in FRIM

There are plenty of adventurous activities to take on in KL for anyone looking to detox from city life with a day spent immersing in nature. Another treat for thrillseekers in the city is Forest Research Institute Malaysia’s (FRIM) 50m-high Forest Skywalk at Kepong Botanical Gardens, which opened on Merdeka Day in 2020.

Here’s what you can do here.

There’s no better way to honour our homeland than to take in the wonder of its beauty – and that’s exactly what you can do on the Forest Skywalk, or Jejantas Rimba, at the Kepong Botanical Gardens at FRIM.

The Forest Skywalk comprises a 250m-long suspended walkway, and eight watchtowers ranging from 18m to 50m – the tallest one suitable for thrillseekers as it scales high above FRIM’s forest.

Built in a rectangular shape, the skywalk lets you enjoy a bird’s eye view of the greens below and around. Those who don’t have a fear of heights can take it to the next level by climbing the 50m watchtower, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur.

Only four individuals will get to climb each watchtower at a time.

You’ll also be able to spot landmark buildings as far as 30km away such as KLCC, KL Tower, Tun Razak Exchange Tower, and Telekom Malaysia.

Visitors will have to pay an extra RM5 to access the watchtower in addition to the Forest Skywalk’s entry fee of RM15 for adults with MyKad, RM40 for non-MyKad holders, RM8 for students aged 7 to 17, and RM10 for senior citizens.

Children below the age of 13 are not permitted to go up to the watchtower, while those below 7 are not allowed on the Forest Skywalk altogether, so you will have to exclude the little ones from this activity.

Kepong Botanic Gardens is 20 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur, and 25 minutes from Petaling Jaya by car.

Alternatively, you can also take the KTM from any KTM station. Make sure you’re on the Rawang-Seremban line and don’t forget to get off at Kepong Sentral Station. Then, hail a taxi or Grab for a short 5-minute ride to Kepong Botanic Gardens.

A nature escape in FRIM

One is usually rewarded with stunning views from a high spot after a long, and possibly arduous hike, but now you can access it without breaking a sweat, look good, and spend your time taking gorgeous pictures as a keepsake.

FRIM is also an idyllic green cocoon not too far from the city that makes for a fun family day out. Instead of spending another weekend in the mall, you can take a stroll in the forest, expand your plant knowledge at the botanical gardens, or simply enjoy a brief nature escape.

Tickets to the Forest Skywalk can be purchased online here.
