Perak Garbage Collector Receives Angpows & CNY Goodies From Residents, Shares His Excitement Online

Garbage collector receives CNY goodies

Garbage collectors are everyday heroes, as they work hard to keep our public areas clear of waste. Their tough work often goes unnoticed, but there are goodhearted individuals who take the time to show their appreciation for them.

During this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations, residents in a Perak town decided to share the festive cheer with these community workers. A garbage collector went online to share how the Chinese residents had given him angpows and a ‘haul’ of CNY goodies comprising mandarins and packet drinks.

Muhammad Izzat posted several clips on his TikTok account @muhamad_30_ on 1st February 2022, which showed him happily surrounded by a heaping amount of CNY goodies in the passenger seat of a lorry.

During the Chinese New Year holidays, Muhammad Izzat had worked as usual with his cleanup crew, clearing the streets of trash and collecting garbage from residential areas in Daerah Kerian, Perak.

Seeing how he had been working hard in the midst of their celebrations, the local Chinese residents showered him and his crew with CNY goodies. This consisted of packet drinks, mandarin oranges, and angpows, which are commonly given away during the CNY celebrations.

Seemingly thrilled, Muhammad Izzat recorded several videos of the CNY gifts to share on TikTok.

Another video uploaded to his account showed him and his crew excitedly sorting through the gifts that the residents had given, immediately after they got off from work.

Making a roadside stop, he was seen sitting by a longkang and their garbage truck, counting through a stack of RM5 and RM10 bills from the angpows they had received.

He revealed in a reply to a netizen that they received RM809 in total.

Muhammad Izzat’s videos has garnered a ton of attention among netizens since its posting, with the first TikTok video he uploaded of his CNY haul receiving over 50,000 views.

He also shared in the comments that he felt grateful for the “rezeki”, and commented “depa lagi best” in response to a netizen who had commented “Wah, bestnya” – presumably, referring to the residents.

Spreading the joy with our neighbours

The kind gestures of the residents towards the garbage collectors during the pandemic is exemplary, as their work is an indispensable part of our lives. With all sorts of cultural festivities being celebrated all year round, we can look to sharing the joy of a celebration with our neighbours.
