Gashapon Bandai Official Shop
Growing up in Malaysia, you might have tried your luck at capsule machines lined up outside kedai runcits and local bookstores. Whether you avidly collect miniature figurines or just love the thrill of a surprise, it’s hard to walk past these machines without giving them a crank.
Pop Mart blind boxes aside, you can now build your collection of figurines from Bandai as Gashapon Bandai Official Shop is now open at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya. We popped by the new shop on its opening day to bring you this first look of the shop, so you know what you can prepare your wallets for:
A first in Southeast Asia with over 300 machines
The opening of Gashapon Bandai’s official shop in Malaysia was announced on its website back in February 2023. The shop is a first in Southeast Asia, bringing with it a range of Bandai’s latest products to Malaysians.
For the uninitiated, Bandai is a Japanese toy manufacturer and distributor that’s popular for their capsule toys. At their first gashapon store in Malaysia, they have 310 capsule machines installed in a 846 square-feet space – so you’ll have no shortage of options to try and start your own Japanese figurine collection.
Figurines from popular anime, franchises and more
On their official Facebook page, Gashapon Bandai Official Shop has been sharing collections of figurines that Malaysians can snag at the store. They include figurines from well-loved anime series, manga comics, and tokusatsu, such as Spy x Family, Pokémon, Doraemon, Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, and Ultraman.
During our visit, we spotted figurines in different categories such as Hobby, Cute, Cool, and Anime too. There’s a wide collection of Normal Gashapon priced between RM15-RM35, as well as Premium Gashapon for RM35-RM125.
If you just adore kawaii things, there are also capsule toy machines that carry items from popular character franchises – Sanrio and Sumikko Gurashi included. Look out for K-pop figurines here – we spotted adorable ones of BTS and NCT127 members.
To operate the machines, there are in-house tokens for RM5/each, which you can collect from a Token Changer. It accepts notes as well as E-wallet payment methods such as Touch ‘n Go and Alipay.
