‘Iron Lung’, The Self-Funded Indie Movie By YouTuber Markiplier, Is Coming To Malaysian Cinemas This March

‘Iron Lung’ starring Markiplier is releasing in Malaysia

Foreign indie films tend to hit their local cinemas and rarely make it to international audiences. This is initially true for American YouTuber Markiplier and his directorial debut film, Iron Lung. After its booming success in the US box office, grossing $34 million, the film is coming to the rest of the world after its release in North America.

For Malaysian fans, Iron Lung will soon be available in GSC and TGV Cinemas.

What is ‘Iron Lung’?

Iron Lung is a slow-burning, cosmic horror film based on a 2022 video game of the same name. This film is written, directed, and executive produced by Mark Fischbach, better known by his YouTube handle, Markiplier. The game’s creator, David Szymanski, assisted with writing the script.

The film stars Mark Fischbach, Caroline Rose Kaplan, and Seán McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye.

The film, similar to the game, is set in outer space and takes place after an event called The Quiet Rapture, where every known star and planet mysteriously disappeared. What’s left of the human population is those left in space stations and spaceships.

The story follows Simon, a convict, who is tasked with piloting a submarine called Iron Lung to explore a moon covered in an ocean of blood.

Iron Lung had only a production budget of $3 million but managed to gross more than $30 million at the US box office. His film became one of the success stories of indie films, surpassing Hollywood blockbusters such as Sam Raimi’s Send Help.
