If you’ve ever fancied whisking yourself from Malaysia to Thailand without hopping on a plane, then the MySawasdee train ride might be your new best friend.

Named after the Thai greeting that literally means welcome, MySawasdee isn’t your everyday commuter service. It’s a special charter train journey designed to take wanderlusters straight from KL Sentral and a few key stops northwards to Thailand’s bustling Hat Yai city.

Onboard, you’ll find options from standard seats with generous legroom to cosy berths for stretching out and napping your way through the kilometres.

Priced affordably from RM95 for a one-way trip, this is one of the most wallet-friendly international jaunts you can snag by rail that lets you soak up the landscape like an old-school traveller rather than a jetlagged flyer.

When are the travel dates?

Just in time to kick off the new year, the MySawasdee is scheduled from January to March 2026.

Here are the key travel dates:

  • KL Sentral to Hat Yai: 30th January & 27th March 2026
  • Hat Yai to KL Sentral: 2nd February & 30th March 2026

When it comes to timing, the outbound train from KL Sentral departs at around 10.30pm local time, which means you can arrive at the station after work and settle in without rushing.

The train travels through the night and reaches Padang Besar after about 7-8 hours, arriving early the next morning for immigration clearance before continuing to Hat Yai.

You can hop aboard from KL Sentral, but if you’re further up the west coast, you’re in luck too: it stops at Sungai Buloh, Ipoh, and Taiping, so boarding is a breeze wherever you’re coming from.

Booking can be done online via the official KTMB site, through the KITS Style app, or in person at ticket kiosks at KL Sentral if you like travelling the old-fashioned way.
