Santan Just Rolled Out Nasi Lemak Ice Cream Topped With Ikan Bilis & Sambal To Celebrate M’sia’s Merdeka Day

Santan x Crème De La Crème’s Nasi Lemak ice cream

Malaysians love their nasi lemak. Several people in Penang even got arrested for trying to get their nasi lemak fix at 2AM during the MCO. Besides roadside stalls, cafes such as Santan have become popular spots to get this staple dish in Malaysia, with their Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak being a hit both on AirAsia flights and on land for its fragrant rice and spicy sambal.

So this comes as great news for all the nasi lemak enthusiasts and Santan fans out here: Santan now serves their popular nasi lemak with a twist, in ice cream form. This ice cream is even topped with sweet sambal, crispy ikan bilis, and crunchy peanuts so none of the essential ingredients in your classic nasi lemak are forfeited in this dessert form.

Santan teamed up with homegrown artisanal ice cream maker, Crème De La Crème –  known for their ice cream flavours with local twists such as Pandan Kaya Toast and Barley Lime – to come up with this unique ice cream called Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak Ice-Cream (RM8.80).

Launching for a limited time from today, 28th August 2020, this ice cream aims to celebrate a widely loved local dish just in time for Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day. We’re expecting the creation to taste like the real deal, with creamy coconut ice cream getting generous swirls of sweet and spicy sambal.

In the place of the usual sprinkles and chocolate syrup that we all know and love as toppings for ice cream, this nasi lemak ice cream gets a serving of ikan bilis and roasted peanuts – just like a plate of nasi lemak.

Other Malaysian flavours to celebrate Merdeka Day at Santan

Another new flavour that will also get served as a single-serve cup at Santan is Pandan Dodol Ice Cream (RM8.80). Those who love this chewy coconut toffee will be in for a treat with this dessert, as dodol gets infused into the ice cream and melted down into a syrup as a topping, along with a sprinkle of coconut flakes.

You can get a taste of both these flavours by dropping by Santan’s locations in Mid Valley Mall in KL or Sunway Pyramid in PJ, or Crème De La Crème’s locations in Uptown Damansara and Mont Kiara.
