Nintendo & Pokémon Center Pop-Up Stores To Open In KL On 12th Sep, Here’s What We Know So Far

Nintendo & Pokémon Center pop-up in Malaysia

Most of us have a Pokémania or Super Mario era. Whether it’s ongoing or something from the past, you’ll be gushing all the same over the Nintendo and Pokémon Center pop-up stores that are opening concurrently in Malaysia towards the end of the year, from 12th September to 31st December 2026.

Here’s what we know about them so far:

First pop-up in Malaysia for the franchises

There’s something about the declaration “first in Malaysia” that always gets Malaysians excited. And the Nintendo and Pokémon Center pop-ups are – cue the cheers – a first in Malaysia.

The pop-ups will be held concurrently under their parent company, The Pokémon Company, at the soon-to-open Ombak KLCC in Kuala Lumpur. It’ll be around for over 3 months, so you can return to shop for Nintendo and Pokémon character merchandise, along with Nintendo games, throughout the period.

It may not be a permanent store, but we’ll take what we can get. The Nintendo Pop-up Store has regularly made an appearance in Singapore, holding massive spaces for games and merch at Jewel Changi Airport. Come September, Malaysians will get their own version of the store.

The KL edition will feature a variety of merch, including Malaysia-exclusive Super Mario designs. Look out for T-shirts that feature Mario, Luigi, and Toad, along with two iconic Warp Pipes standing side-by-side that are meant to be a nod to Malaysia’s Petronas Twin Towers.

Beyond these limited-edition items, expect to shop best-selling character merch brought in from Japan – in other words, merch you won’t need a passport or plane ticket to get your hands on. The Singapore Nintendo pop-up had merch from popular franchises such as Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda, so fingers crossed for similar items at the Malaysia pop-up.

While there’s a slew of Pokémon-related events taking place in KL towards the end of the year, the Pokémon Center pop-up will have a dedicated space for Pokémon merch. Everything that fans love about Pokémon will be here, including trading cards and plush toys, as well as special Pokémon merch that celebrates the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

A gaming booth experience in collaboration with Nintendo will also be set up for fans.

As it’s hard to walk away from a pop-up without some photos, Ombak KLCC is set to feature Pokémon-themed decorations around its mall space, from 1st October till 31st December, with four themes planned for the period.

Nintendo & Pokémon Center pop-up hits Malaysia

There’s plenty to get excited about if you’re a Pokémon or Nintendo fan – or both, for that matter – in Malaysia. While merch of both franchises isn’t difficult to find at our local malls, the pop-ups will bring with them exclusive Japan and Malaysia-exclusive merch that will be hard to resist.
