Klang Valley NRP Phase Two

For months, the entire Klang Valley has stayed under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) due to a jaw-dropping number of daily Covid-19 cases. A lot of us who live in this region have been wanting to see some improvements in the crisis as more and more businesses are forced to shut down with the prolonged Movement Control Order (MCO).

However, the central region comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will finally be moving into Phase Two of the NRP starting 10th September 2021, after an official announcement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday.

PM Ismail Sabri also said that Selangor, KL and Putrajaya will be considered as one area so movement between them will be allowed without any roadblocks, as reported by the New Straits Times.

The decision made by the Special Committee on Covid-19 Pandemic Management indicates that states moving into Phase Two will have relaxed SOPs such as allowing inter-district travel for the fully vaccinated, dine-in at restaurants at 50% table capacity with SOP compliance, and the opening of cinemas, places of worship, and commercial sports facilities, among others.

The significant drop in daily positive Covid-19 cases in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur with more than 90% of the adult population fully vaccinated also indicates that the central region is well-equipped to undergo the much-anticipated transition.

Klang Valley will transition to Phase Two of NRP

It is indeed good news that after months of lockdown and restrictions, the central region is finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel as it moves to the second phase of the NRP with relaxations on SOPs. Nonetheless, it’s important that folks residing in Klang Valley continue to observe health SOPs at all times to prevent a further outbreak of Covid-19 in the region.
