Shopping malls in Malaysia have been trying their best to keep shoppers safe and adhere to SOPs during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO). This follows after crowds which were not keeping to social distancing guidelines were seen at malls in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Showing that Malaysians can get creative while also sticking to the rules, Sunway Pyramid in Subang Jaya displayed “social distancing” mannequins on public benches. Now Sungei Wang Plaza in KL is stepping up to the plate with fun Tic-Tac-Toe & Pac-Man floor stickers to help social distance shoppers too.
Creative floor stickers to help social distance shoppers
Photos of the creative social distancing measures carried out by Sungei Wang Plaza were shared on their Facebook page on 26th May 2020. It showed the popular jalan–jalan spot covering areas that often attract snaking lines in their premises with floor stickers.
And instead of using just your usual paper and tape, they opted for Pac-Man and Tic-Tac-Toe stickers for those waiting to use ATMs and lifts. To enter the “game”, or social-distancing spot, shoppers are also greeted with words such as “Preventive action starts here” and “Entering Antivirus Zone”.

Other safety measures around the mall include a check-in area for shoppers before they enter that has marked spots for them to stand 1-metre apart. There’s even a series of popular Malaysian slangs plastered on the floor, such as “Chill lah bro” and “Wow, that’s so lit” to lighten up the mood of shoppers.

And the whole thing looked so fun that another Twitter user, @Redzwann_, even joked that he thought he was looking at photos of a carnival: “What is this? I thought it was a carnival”.

Sungei Wang Plaza’s floor stickers to help with social distancing
We have been seeing better days in Malaysia, with the lowest number of new COVID-19 cases recorded yesterday since the start of MCO. But it never hurts to keep playing it safe at this time.
This is why we’re applauding malls in Malaysia that are trying their best to keep shoppers safe even with guidelines relaxing under CMCO – and having a little fun with it to bring us all some much-needed smiles.
