New light art installation at Lalaport BBCC
If you’ve ever dreamt of treading through a magical forest that envelops you in dazzling lights and colours – think Pandora in the world of Avatar – you’re in luck. TeamLab, an international art collective from Japan, is holding a mesmerising art installation at LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) in KL.
Called Resonating Microcosms, the exhibition opens to the public from 4th August till 30th November 2022 and admission is free. Here’s what we know about the exhibit.

Early in July, TeamLab from Japan revealed on their website that they are set to hold an outdoor exhibition at LaLaport BBCC. The exhibition will be located on the mall’s Central Rooftop Garden on Level 4, and will open to the public from 4th August to 30th November.
Named Resonating Microcosms – Liquified Light Colour, Sunrise And Sunset and now open to eager visitors, the outdoor exhibition showcases a landscape filled with an army of reflective egg-shaped, or ovoid, sculptures.

Beyond just taking photos, guests can interact with these magical objects which emit colours and sounds. Touch one of the ovoids and watch it and its surrounding ovoids react in unison.

You’ll want to take your time exploring the garden, as these ovoids are able to produce 57 different colours of liquified lights. The interactive sculptures also transform under the influence of the wind and rain, as well as the presence of nearby people in the space, making the environment and visitors part of the work.
The exhibit opens from 10AM to 10PM, daily. But there are two entry sessions you’ll want to take note of – visit the garden between 10AM to 5PM, or 7.30PM to 10PM.
It’s recommended to drop by when night falls, so you can see just how dazzlingly the ovoids shine in the dark. As this a popular time to visit the garden among visitors, you’ll have to collect a time slot card from the Redemption Counter on the same floor to visit from 7.30PM till closing.
But if you’re visiting the exhibit in the morning, when it is less crowded, the ovoids just as impressively reflect their environment on their mirrored surface.

Another interactive installation worth checking out while you’re in the garden is Resonating Trees, which comprises trees ‘blinking’ with coloured lights in reaction to the presence of people.
