Putrajaya is home to almost all of Malaysia’s government buildings after it replaced Kuala Lumpur as the nation’s federal administrative centre. So it’s racked up a reputation as a city most of us wouldn’t usually think of when scouting out fun activities to do in Klang Valley – case in point, when it was voted the least romantic state in Malaysia in 2020.
But you’ll be surprised with the variety of attractions hiding out here – a thrilling skate park, romantic cruise rides, and ‘overseas’ photo spots included. So venture beyond your usual places in KL and Selangor and check out these 25 things to do in Putrajaya.

1. China-Malaysia Friendship Garden

The pandemic has undoubtedly dashed many of our travel plans. But there are attractions such as China-Malaysia Friendship Garden that bring scenic overseas places to our country.
This lesser-known garden in Klang Valley is part of the larger Anjung Floria Garden, a public park in Putrajaya comprising several smaller gardens. The Chinese-style garden was opened in 2015 to commemorate Malaysia’s diplomatic ties with China.

Boasting a Chinese pavilion, moon gate, and stone walls, the garden has plenty of spots that look straight out of a Chinese historical drama. Visitors can drop by to soak up the beauty of these traditional structures, and take enchanting ‘overseas’ snaps – the garden’s entrance with its dramatic, sweeping roof is an especially popular photo-taking spot.

2. ESCAPE Putrajaya

For those looking for an adventurous activity in Putrajaya, head to ESCAPE. This adventure theme park in the city has 14 thrilling attractions, all located at an outdoor area at Alamanda Shopping Centre so you can check out andrenaline activities and then fuel up at the mall.

Some highlights at the theme park include a Zip Coaster that lets you hop on a tandem ride and zoom over the park, and Atan’s Leap, where you’ll face your fears by leaping off a 20-metre platform and landing on the ground.

Another well-known photo spot in Putrajaya is Astaka Morocco. This eye-catching pavilion features delicately crafted pillars and archways by Moroccan artisans, celebrating Malaysia’s diplomatic links with Morocco.

4. Taman Botani Putrajaya

Taman Botani Putrajaya, or Putrajaya Botanical Garden, is a huge 93-hectare botanical in the city that’s popularly visited by locals for jogging and cycling in the mornings and evenings. Astaka Morocco happens to be adjacent to the garden too.

The serene park is seperated into five zones, with a lake situated in the middle of lush greenery. If you’re here to go cycling, you can rent different types of bicycles for a 30-minute ride, including kid-friendly bicycle at RM10 and even a tandem bicycle at RM20.

5. Gua. Juicery

Inside Taman Botani Putrajaya, you’ll find Gua. Juicery. This juice shop in the park has become a popular destination in the city for photos, thanks to their cave-like facade and interior.

After a jog or cycle through the park, you can turn to them to refuel on bagels, sandwiches, coffee, and a lineup of resfreshing smoothies like Mango Berries (RM15) and Melon Lychee (RM12). Either have your meal at their IG-worthy space, or opt to just set yourself by the lake with your meal.

6. Seri Gemilang, Seri Wawasan & Putra bridges
Catch stunning night views of bridges in Putrajaya
Spend enough time driving through Putrajaya and you’ll find yourself cruising over multiple bridges – the city happens to have eight unique bridges that connect its 20 precincts.

One of these bridges is Seri Gemilang Bridge, an elaborate European-style bridge modelled after Pont Alexandre III bridge in Paris, France. It’s even flanked by four decorative towers with elegant gold and marble trimmings.
The bridge is even more captivating at night when it lights up, making it an ideal spot for romantic strolls along its designated pedestrian lanes and a charming subject for photographers.

In contrast to the old-world charm of Seri Gemilang Bridge, Seri Wawasan Bridge in Precinct 2 is a futuristic, asymmetric bridge that looks like the bow of a ship. This bridge lights up in vivid colours from evening till midnight, and has a pedestrian lane right down the middle where you can take amazing symmetrical shots.

The longest bridge in the city, Putra Bridge stretches 435-metres long and is three storeys tall. Its top level is used as a vehicle crossing, while its lowest level is a pedestrian lane that leads out to scenic piers by the lake. A monorail track is planned for its middle level.
For a fun fact, this bridge is modelled after the Khaju Bridge in Iran.

7. Putra Mosque

It’s hard to miss Putra Mosque in Putrajaya. This iconic waterfront landmark is a sacred space for Muslims in the country, and an architectural attraction due to its unique pink exterior comprising nine pink-coloured domes crafted with rose-tinted marble.
It’s one of only a handful of well-known pink mosques located around the world.

Non-muslims are welcome to visit during non-prayer hours to explore the Main Prayer Hall, where soft, rosy sunlight is reflected off the pink interior walls and massive dome.
Hooded robes are provided free-of-charge to all women, as well as anyone who is not in proper attire for their visit.
As Putra Mosque is a fully-operating place of worship, visitors should keep in mind and observe religious protocols when here. These include removing shoes when entering the Main Prayer Hall and refraining from talking loudly.

8. PICC View Point
Enjoy panoramic views of Putrajaya

Putrajaya may not have any obersvation towers, but there is the PICC View Point. Even if you don’t have an event to attend at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), you can head up to the intergalactic-like building that’s situated on a hill for some of the best panoramic views of Putrajaya.

9. Pantai Floria
Dip your feet in a sandy beach

A new attraction at Putrajaya is Pantai Floria, an artificial beach in Precinct 4 that stretches 100 metres and is complete with sandy banks and water to dip your feet in.
The beach was opened to the public on 1st March 2022, and has quickly become a popular place to kayak, fish, camp and picnic along the beach.

You can rent two fishing rods for RM50/day, or go for a relaxing kayak (RM15/ride) ride on the lake’s wide expanse of water.

10. Putrajaya Wetlands Studio
An indoor theme park with 12 exhibits

When you mix the worlds of Avatar and Jurassic Park, you’ll get Putrajaya Wetlands Studio, a family-friendly indoor theme park in the area that has 12 exhibits that the whole fam will enjoy exploring.

The wonders of the ecosystems are displayed at its exhibits. There are zones dedicated to the massive dinosaur and mighty insect, which are brought to life through realistic animal displays – some of them are even animatronic, to let you be swept away to a whole other era. Though it doesn’t move or roar, the giant Megalodon with its teeth bared is a popular photo buddy.

11. Taman Saujana Hijau

Klang Valley has numerous lush parks where city folks can escape from their daily grind. Those in and around Putrajaya, there’s Taman Saujana Hijau, a 117-acre, European-inspired park with flower fields and pine trees.

This sprawling park even features zones named European Park, Oriental Park, and English Park that’ll take you out of Malaysia with their rows of pine trees, sunflower fields, and charming gazebos. The flat lawns here are great for picnics – another popular activity among park visitors.

12. Tangga Putrajaya Steps
Climb up unique steps for elevated photo ops

Flights of steps may not sound like much of an attraction. But Tangga Putrajaya Steps is a set of steps in the city that opened to the public in October 2021 as a recreational area for residents, as well as a new spot to catch panoramic views of Putrajaya.

The flight is about 30-metres in length and comprises 248 steps. Its design is inspired by well-known steps from abroad such as Spanish Steps in Italy, and also one closer to home – Batu Caves. When the hotter months of March and April are around the corner, visitors can expect to see pink and white Tecoma trees in bloom along the steps.

13. Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque
Visit Putrajaya’s ‘Iron Mosque’

Another equally impressive mosque here is Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque. Dubbed the “Iron Mosque” by locals, this open-concept mosque is constructed mainly of stainless steel, giving it a futuristic look that sets it apart from more traditional mosques.

The mosque is open to visitors during non-prayer hours, so architectural buffs can check out its stunning interior influenced by Chinese and German architecture. This mosque’s charms include its many symmetrical arches and minimalist dome.

14. Pusat Rekreasi Air
Go kayaking and canoeing

Another way that thrill-seekers can catch views of Putra Mosque is to drop by Pusat Rekreasi Air. This lakeside recreational centre hosts several fun, family-friendly water activities, including kayaking (RM10.60/hour) and canoeing (RM15.90/hour).
It will take you about 15 minutes to paddle up to Putra Mosque from here, but the close-up views of the iconic structure from the water is well worth the journey.

Those with little ones can opt for paddle boats (from RM10.60/hour) – each seats a maximum of two adults and three kids, aged 3-12 years old. Safety life jackets are provided to passengers, so they can securely pedal past nature gems here such as Putrajaya Wetlands Park and Putrajaya Botanical Park.
Other boat options here are fishing boats (from RM21.20), which you can rent with two of your besties for four hours. It comes with one fishing rod, and is available from 9am-7pm.

15. Putrajaya Challenge Park
Try out extreme sports

Amateur and pro skateboarders alike can check out Putrajaya Challenge Park – an adventure park with an outdoor skate park featuring bowls, rails, and ramps so you can show off your skateboarding tricks without worrying about cars or pedestrians.

The skate park also has an area to accommodate other sports such as rollerblading and dirt biking. Besides these, there are vibrant street art murals that you can check out while here too.

If extreme indoor sports are more your thing, there’s an indoor area here for rock climbing. Fees are charged for adults (RM6/hour) and kids (RM3/hour) to enter this area in the challenge park, which features six zones, including Bouldering, Top Rope, Lead Climb, and Speed Climbing.
A separate Children’s Zone has lower climbing walls and padded floors so your kids can try out this fun activity too.

A pool is a great way to cool down from the Malaysian heat. At Marina Putrajaya, you can wade in an indoor Olympic-size swimming pool to escape the tropical rays at affordable prices – it costs only RM5/adult and RM3/kid, per session.
The pool is open for multiple swimming sessions, according to day:

17. Flyboard Malaysia

For those who are into extreme water sports, Flyboard Malaysia lets you ‘fly’ up to 15 metres in the air with water-propelled jet packs.
There are five different packages for adventurous individual to check out here. If you have no prior experience, go for the Beginners’ Package (RM370/pax) for 30 minutes of flyboarding time.
A personal instructor will guide you through a set of safety protocols, and keep a close eye on you while you try out cool flyboarding tricks on the water.

You won’t have to leave your kids out of this fun activity – the Tandem Ride (RM150/pax) is catered to children over four years of age. The 10-minute flight experience is assisted by a friendly instructor, who will hop onto the flyboard along with your little ones so they are well looked after on the water.

18. District 21
Challenge yourself with gruelling attractions

IOI City Mall is another mall in Putrajaya that’s well-frequented by residents in the Klang Valley. It is the largest mall in Malaysia, hosting a long list of food spots and retailers, as well as entertainment spots like District 21.

This post-apocalyptic themed sports and recreation park covers a whopping 70,000 square feet. Thrill-seekers can try out 10 adventure attractions here – such as Sky Trail, Tubby Ride and Free Fall – that’ll have you climbing, jumping, riding, sliding and flying through exciting, physically challenging courses.
Consider bringing the whole fam here, as there’s no age limit for patrons. There is only a height limit of 90cm that you’ll want to take note of.

19. Putrajaya Wetlands Park

Malaysia is home to over 90 wetlands – untouched nature zones comprising land, water, and animals. Putrajaya Wetlands Park happens to be one of them, taking up over 197.2 hectares – over 360 football fields – of space in the city and functioning as a ‘green lung’.
Unlike other wetlands, Putrajaya wetlands is the first man-made freshwater wetlands in Malaysia, which encloses 24 wetlands cells and Wetlands areas. It is also home to over 24 species of freshwater fish and aquatic animals including flamingoes and swans.

The park is free to enter, and is popular for laidback activities such as jogging and cycling. Bicycles (RM8/hour) are also available for rent.
Other features of this sprawling area include a treehouse lookout point you can climb up for views of surrounding mangroves, and a flamingo pond where you see these elegant, pink animals chilling in the lake.

20. Cruise Tasik Putrajaya

Cruise tours are scarce in the Klang Valley – but you can find one in Putrajaya at Cruise Tasik Putrajaya. They host sightseeing tours (RM30/adult and RM20/kid) of Putrajaya’s best attractions via air-conditioned cruise boats.
Some sights that can be seen on the 45-minute cruise ride include Putra Mosque and Seri Wawasan Bridge.

For smaller tours with just the fam, the Perahu Dondang Sayang accommodates up to six on a traditional Malay fishing boat with a friendly tour guide at the helm. Prices for this boat ride around Putrajaya Lake are RM20/adult and RM12/kid.

21. Love Boat Putrajaya

Cruise Tasik Putrajaya also hosts Love Boat (RM250) rides for special date nights. You’ll be hopping on the same Dondang Sayang boats as their cruise tours, but it’ll be specially decorated with balloons, lights, and curtains for a cosy time out on the lake.

Western food with sparkling juice is also provided with the ride, so couples can have a candlelit dinner while cruising past attractions in the city. The ride lasts just over an hour, and music is played to enhance the romantic experience.

22. Putrajaya Equestrian Park

Putrajaya Equestrian Park is a horse riding school that hosts stable tours and joy rides. They have weekday (from RM600) and weekend (from RM700) packages that each include eight 45-minute sessions with a personal instructor, and a horse riding certificate to cap off your experience.
Absolute beginners are welcomed, as well as children as young as 9 years old.

If you’re here for a joy ride, the equestrian park also hosts horse riding sessions from 8.30am-10.30am, and 4.30pm-6.30pm, from Tuesdays to Sundays. You’ll be given an informative class on horse care and handling before each ride. Once you’ve got the basics covered, you can begin riding a horse in a gated lawn under the supervision of a horse trainer.
This is priced at RM20/adult and RM15/child.

23. Ekues Cabin Cafe
Dine with a view of an equestrian park

Inside Putrajaya Equestrian Park, you’ll find the Ekues Cabin Cafe, a new addition at the equestrian park in Putrajaya that cafe-hoppers have been flocking to. Diners can enjoy a meal while watching horses gallop past outside the cafe’s serene glasshouse-like building. There are also dining seats set outdoors, if you want a closer view of the horses.

The cafe has a pretty extensive menu of drinks and food, with mains stretching from Pulled Beef Fried Rice (RM17) to Big Stallion Breakfast (RM27).

24. Taman Putra Perdana
A park that lights up with LED lights at night

At the top of Tangga Putrajaya Steps sits an attraction that’s often overlooked – Taman Putra Perdana, also called Putrajaya Secret Garden, that’s located just across Pulse Grande Hotel.
If you’re looking for a late-night activity in Putrajaya, this will be the spot to visit. The park is already breathtaking for morning strolls, but it’s at night when it comes fully alive with LED lights decorating trees and plants that line its sidewalks.

The Putrajaya Landmark Monument also stands proudly at the park, along with megalith stones called Laman Megalith – the latter was found in 1989 in Kampung Gelanngang, Negeri Sembilan, and are believed to be from the Neolithic, Mesolithic, and Bronze ages.

25. IOI City Farm
An indoor farm with animal interaction sessions

For more family-friendly activities to check out in Putrajaya, IOI City Farm is one that’s not to be missed. The indoor urban farm is situated inside IOI City Mall, with three zones that houses 17 animal species such as rabbits and marmosets, and also 50 types of aquatic animals.

For even more close-up encounters with the animal, the farm hosts animal interaction sessions and has Touch Tanks and Feed Ponds that let visitors interact with amphibians and marine life.

If staying closer to the city centre is on your checklist, Dorsett Putrajaya is a short walking distance from landmarks in Putrajaya such as the Iron Mosque and Dataran Putrajaya.
How to get around Putrajaya?
Putrajaya has just one MRT station, Putrajaya Sentral, on the MRT Putrajaya Line, which you can utilise to get to Putrajaya from other areas in Klang Valley. Once you’re in the city, you can opt to get around by public transport.
The Nadi Putra buses offer access to main residential, commercial, and recreational zones in Putrajaya at a small fee, from dawn till after midnight at a frequency of 15-30 minutes. E-hailing rides, like Grab, will be the most convenient way to get from one attraction to another in Putrajaya if you’re not coming by in private vehicle. Rides within the city are typically priced from RM8-10.
