1. Nijigen Expo

If you’re an anime fan who’s always on the lookout for ACG events in Klang Valley, Nijigen Expo is the place to be on 12th and 13th June. The two-day event will feature shop booths with merch from popular shows like Solo Leveling, Jujitsu Kaisen, and Oshi no Ko, plus a ton of fun activities including a cosplay runway, musical performances, card battles, giveaways, and more.

2. Marusan Toys: Godzilla, Ultraman & Kaiju

If vintage anime collectibles are more your type of thing, check out the Marusan Exhibition at A4 Art Gallery. This showcase features rare vintage sofubis of iconic kaiju and superheroes from the golden age of Japanese vinyl toys, and offers a look into the design evolution of one of Japan’s most iconic toy makers.

Catch Godzilla and Ultraman in various sizes from handheld to human-sized, plus cool retro posters and some exclusive merch.

3. Malaysia International Film Festival

The Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) is returning to KL for its 8th edition, this time with screenings held at MyTown Shopping Centre. Movie buffs can get an all-access ticket to watch 62 different films from 48 countries that are part of the festival.

This year’s lineup is just as coulourful, with local and international films helmed by filmmakers from France, Switzerland, Taiwan, and beyond.

There’ll also be open-air cinema screenings of homegrown beloved films like The Journey and Polis Evo 1, masterclasses and forums, and a MIFFest Marketplace happening all throughout the festival.

4. The Gundam Base Pop-Up

Gundam fans, rejoice – the Gundam Base Pop-Up World Tour is coming to Malaysia on 4th July after showcases in Paris and China. In celebration of GUNPLA’s 45th anniversary, the pop-up is set to bring over a smorgasbord of event-exclusive merch and limited-edition goods, plus a GUNPLA exhibit, all at Farenheit88’s INCUBASE Arena.

So, prep your wallets and gather your Gundam-loving crew to check out this event and grab the good stuff before it all sells out.

5. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Experience

The epic Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Experience pop-up is now open in KL, with life-sized sets featuring epic scenes from the anime, an unmissable merch store, and a cafe with themed food and beverages.

Train like a Demon Slayer with a giant boulder at the Hashira Training Arc set and take ominous selfies with cutouts of demons in the ryokan-inspired castle room. Then, snap up event-exclusive official goods from acrylic stands to earrings, and cap off your fan fantasy experience with a themed meal that’s as visually appealing as it is tasty.

6. Bon Odori 2025

If an actual trip to Japan isn’t on the cards for you right now, head to the annual Bon Odori festival that is taking place in Sunway City this year. The 600-year-old traditional festival is where you can celebrate and revel in the magic of Japan without leaving town.

Catch vibrant and exciting cultural performances, including the must-see Drum Performance and Bon Odori Dance, and chow down on a wide range of Japanese and local delicacies – don’t worry, you can get both Muslim-friendly and non-Halal options here.

Here are the timings for the two highlight performances:

7. Hybe Cine Fest

HYBE CINE FEST in Asia brings six screenings of music events featuring HYBE artists, including BTS, SEVENTEEN, TXT, and ENHYPEN. For four days, you can catch concert films from world tours that, sadly, never made it live to Malaysia at GSC locations across Klang Valley:

As a bonus for BTS Jin fans, there will even be a live broadcast of the RUN SEOKJIN: EP.TOUR’ in JAPAN straight from Osaka’s Kyocera Dome.

HoYo FEST returns this July for fans of Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero to celebrate their favourite HoYoverse games and vibe with fellow players from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Footwear fiends will not want to skip the Malaysia International Shoe Festival, happening at Pavilion Bukit Jalil for five days only this July. The largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, this event is set to feature global and local shoe brands for sale, a TikTok Zone, shoe workshops, free podiatric assessments, and a chance to get up close and personal with Malaysia’s best shoe craftsmen.

Also, you won’t want to miss a showcase of the making of a giant 8-foot stiletto heel, which is expected to be officially certified by the Malaysia Book of Records at this event. 20. The Plantation Plot at Ilham Gallery

Known as one of KL’s ultimate date spots, ILHAM Gallery is giving us another reason to visit this month. They have a powerful new exhibition in collaboration with KADIST, a global non-profit dedicated to sparking conversations on social issues through art.

Running from now to 21st September, The Plantation Plot is curated by rising Malaysian curator Lim Sheau Yun, whose proposal was jointly selected by ILHAM and KADIST. The exhibition brings together works by 28 artists and collectives from Southeast Asia and the Americas, exploring the deep-rooted legacies and ongoing impact of plantation systems.
