Bubble tea fever is here to stay… and so are our expanding waistlines and shrinking wallets. If you’ve been feeling guilty about spending just a little too much of your salary on your daily BBT runs – especially with even more more BBT hot spots cropping up – you’re not alone.

To help you ease the pain, we’ve rounded up 10 bubble tea stores that sell classic pearl milk teas at just RM7 or less. Some of these places even have weekly deals that will help you save money while you indulge in your BBT habit.

1. Chatime – RM1 bubble tea on “ThirsTea” Thursdays

One of the first bubble tea stores that opened in Malaysia was Chatime. Way back in 2010 when its stores sprang up in KL, Malaysians caught the BBT craze and our love for teh tarik suddenly took a backseat. Now, almost a decade later, Chatime is still standing strong with 25 outlets in Klang Valley. And despite inflation costs, its Original Pearl Milk Tea remains at RM6.90

To make it even more accessible, Chatime has a “ThirsTea” deal on Thursdays from 3PM-6PM, where every second drink purchased with a normal-priced item is priced at just RM1!

Momo Tea packs its beverages in reusable bottles with sleek and seasonal designs. You can bring back the bottles on your next visit to get a stamp and 10% off your order. Collect 10 stamps and you can redeem a free drink.

There’s only 1 Momo Tea outlet in Cheras (the other is in JB), so it’s no surprise that it tends to get crowded during lunch hour. But with a large Classic Pearl Milk Tea priced at just RM6.90, we say the wait’s worth it.

3. FamilyMart – Brown Sugar Bubble Milk Tea for RM6.90

Malaysians were hyped to learn that Japanese-based convenience store FamilyMart was opening its first store in KL back in 2016. Not only is the store open 24 hours, it also carries a great variety of cold and hot snacks – from Japanese oden bowls to Matcha ice cream – with prices as low as RM3.80 for a Chicken Mayo onigiri.

Back in July, they launched their very own Brown Sugar Bubble Milk Tea. It’s made with fresh milk and boba imported from Taiwan, but comes with a reasonable price tag of RM6.90. It gets sold out during lunch hour, so you’ll want to start queuing a little earlier before the snaking lines start.

4. Cojiitii – cocoa and cheese-and-tea beverages below RM9

Image credit:
@cojiitii

Cojiitii specialises in cocoa and cheese-with-tea beverages. Its Cojii Cocoa (RM8.90) – made with frothed fresh milk and Belgian dark chocolate – is creamy and rich. You can add a foamy cheese topping called Cojii Cocoa Cheese (RM3) for an even creamier, salty-and-sweet mix.

But if you’re here for classic bubble tea, Cojiitii’s Golden Pearl Milk Tea (RM6.50) is also a must-try. Similar to its cocoa drinks, this milk tea is smooth and has the right balance of fresh milk and tea, topped with chewy pearls.

5. Tea Amo – halal-certified BBT for RM6.90

Tea’amo is one of the few BBT stores in Malaysia that’s certified halal. It’s also one of the first BBT shops in Jalan SS15/4, also known as Bubble Tea Street where over 15 international BBT brands are sandwiched together in this small college town.

There are seven milk flavors on Tea’amo’s menu. Some standouts include the Rose Milk (RM10.90), a less sweet version of bandung, and Strawberry Milk with Mango Boba (RM12.40) that is a perfect blend of sweet and sour. Its Classic Pearl Milk Tea (RM6.90) comes with a generous topping of pearls for those who love their traditional milk tea with boba.

We recommend the taufufah pudding topping (RM2) in their Brown Sugar Pearl Royal Milk Tea (RM7.90). It is a smooth contrast to the chewy pearls. Tea’amo also has soft serve ice creams in chocolate, earl grey and royal milk tea flavours that you can order with four toppings, including boba.

Address: No. 51, Jalan SS 15/4, SS15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor

Another shop on Bubble Tea Street that serves affordable bubble tea is OneZO. Its signature OneZO Milk Tea is priced at just RM6.50. The strong and fragrant tea taste in this drink is comparable to another international-branded BBT store, but at only half the price.

OneZO also has over 17 pearl toppings – all claimed to be made without any preservatives or artificial coloring. The sesame and purple sweet potato pearls are unique toppings to try, but their Pokeball (RM2.50) is the most interesting one. They look like, well, Pokeballs. It is made of coconut, red rice and bamboo charcoal to achieve the unique design.

The store occasionally adds limited-edition pearl flavours to their menu – they had Fiery Chili Pearls back in August – so follow their Facebook and Instagram pages to stay in the loop.

7. Moomin Bubbles – character-themed BBT for RM7

Image credit:
@moominbubbles

Based off the adorable children’s book characters from Finnish author, Tove Jansson, the Moomin Bubbles’ stall in Sunway Pyramid is a little piece of the fairy-tale come to life. There’s a white picket fence surrounding the store, a rainbow Moomin sign and Moomintroll himself standing at the front, and plush orange booth seats to welcome guests. And it’s a great place to hang out and get that Instagram shot.

The Moomin Milk Tea (RM7) has a strong-enough tea flavour that is balanced with milk. You can add on the pearl topping for just RM1. There is rarely a line here compared to other international BBT brands in the mall, like Koi and Tiger Sugar, so you’ll be able to have a more chill hangout sesh here.

Also halal-certified, CoolBlog is a Malaysian-based bubble tea brand that has a series of local dessert- and drink-inspired bubble tea, such as cendol smoothie (RM5.30), iced/blended bandung (RM4) and iced/blended teh tarik (RM5). Nothing on its menu goes over RM8, with large drinks averagely priced at RM6.

A must-try is the Hari Harimau Milk Tea (RM6.50) which comes with brown sugar pearls. If brown sugar’s not your thing, go for the Original Milk Tea with Pearl (RM5.90) which tastes like a sweetened iced teh tarik with pearls. They both come in a standard large (700ml) cup.

Each a Cup is another BBT chain that’s halal-certified. Its Earl Grey Milk Tea is just RM6.50, and has a strong milky flavour with just a hint of earl grey tea, and is topped off with chewy pearls.

If you’re looking to switch things up, try their Roasted Milk Tea with Azuki Brown Rice Pearls (RM6.50). The unique topping is richer in fibre and protein compared to the usual boba pearls.

Each a Cup also recently added the Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea to their menu – it’s pricier, though, at RM11.90
