Gutsy man sets up burger stall across from McDonald’s outlet
McDonald’s is well-known to us all as the spot to load up on wallet-friendly burgers and fries. So other local food stalls often have to put up a good fight to get customers lining up for the same options of food in the presence of this fast food franchise.Â
Nonetheless, this didn’t seem to deter local sellers – as shown by a photo of a burger stall selling Ramly burgers just across a McDonald’s in Kepong, KL that has gone viral online. Many have been applauding the gutsy seller for setting up shop there, with McDonald’s even coming out to tweet about it. Â
Ramly burgers served in front of McDonald’s
The photo of the unnamed burger stall competing head-to-head with McDonald’s at one of their locations in KL was shared by numerous netizens on social media platforms, mainly Twitter and Facebook.
Twitter user, @craz33sufri, for one, tweeted the photo along with a caption that can be translated from Malay to English as, “A rather daring attempt.”

The photo showed a food stall – common in Malaysia for quick and affordable bites – setting up shop by the roadside, just across the street from a McDonald’s outlet.
We did a quick search to find out which McDonald’s outlet the photo was snapped at. It appears to be a branch on Jalan 54 in Pekan Kepong, as evident from the Google Maps street view image as seen below.

Not the only burger stall facing off McDonald’s in town
This burger stall that’s been going viral online for setting up shop in front of McDonald’s is not the only one in town. In a follow-up tweet, @craz33sufri shared that there’s also a burger stall in Penang called Man Burger Sungai Dua that is known to locals there for selling burgers and hot dogs from RM2.50 right in front of a McDonald’s outlet there.

A look through Man Burger Sungai Dua’s Google Map reviews shows patrons of the local food stall cheekily uploading photos of burgers that they got from the stall located in front of McDonald’s.
Netizens impressed, McDonald’s stunned
As food stalls are known to dish out some of the best food in Malaysia, many have been coming out to engage in a friendly and cheeky debate on how they prefer Ramly burgers over those served by McDonald’s any day.
This included Twitter user @shzlynashzl, who tweeted, “I prefer roadside burger stalls more than McDonald’s [laughing face emoji].”

Others were just impressed by the gutsy owner of the burger stall and wanted to support it for directly challenging their “competitor”. Netizen @DMunlik, for one, tweeted, “Way to challenge your competitor. Send me the location #guts”.

As the photo has since gone viral, it even caught the attention of McDonald’s Malaysia. Their official Twitter page tweeted, “Terkesima”, in response to @craz33sufri’s post about the burger stall, which can be translated into amazed or stunned.

Burger stall directly competes with McDonald’s in KL
We’re always looking to support local businesses, especially during the pandemic with many food stalls struggling to survive – as shown by this uncle selling pau who only had change for 1 customer. So we applaud this burger stall in Kepong – and many others out there – who are not bowing down to the fierce competition presented by big fast food chains like McDonald’s. And Mekdi’s response to the set up of the burger stall right in front of their outlet in Kepong also has us in stitches.
