US Pizza launches cempedak pizza & pastas
US Pizza has surprised Malaysians with unique, and sometimes bizarre, pizza creations in the past. Their Durian Pizza and Sambal Petai Udang Pizza, for example, had us all scratching our heads. Just when we thought the air couldn’t get any more aromatic, the pizza joint is bringing back their Cheesy Cempedak Pizza – as well as two new pasta dishes, also with rich cempedak.
We recently visited a US Pizza outlet at SS15 to bring you this review:
Cheesy pizza with cempedak topping
There is no neutral ground when it comes to having pineapples on pizza – you either love it or hate it.
Another topping up for debate is US Pizza’s Cheesy Cempedak Pizza (RM32/9-inch) with real cempedak flesh, which was first released in 2020 and making a comeback this year.
Freshly kneaded pizza dough is spread with thick cempedak sauce and covered with grated cheese. After the cempedak flesh is nicely arranged on top, the pizza is sent to the rolling oven and baked to golden perfection.
You’re probably curious about the taste – and we got your backs. Cheese and cempedak are both strong ingredients with distinct flavours, but the Cheesy Cempedak Pizza was surprisingly easy on the taste buds. As the taste of the cheese was subtle, the pizza felt more like a dessert that wasn’t cloyingly sweet rather than a savoury pizza.
New carbonara and bolognese pastas with cempedak
If that’s not enough cempedak for you, US Pizza is also introducing Cempedak Creamy Mushroom Pasta (RM13.80) with creamy carbonara sauce, and Cempedak Bolognese Pasta (RM13.80) to their menu for a limited time only.

We tried the Cempedak Creamy Mushroom Pasta, which had a dash of honey that added an extra hint of sweetness to the dish. Overall, the rich and creamy taste from the carbonara sauce complemented well with the sweet cempedak flesh, with the honey beautifully elevating the fusion of flavours. We tucked in and finished the whole plate of pasta without feeling jelak.
