Free drinks for delivery riders

There are countless stories of unsung heroes in Malaysia that have cropped up lately as we settle into Day 7 of Movement Control Order. And one of these heroes Malaysians are especially grateful for are food delivery riders, who have been making our BBT and food runs for us while we stay at home.
Ordinary folks have been showing their appreciation for riders in different ways that have helped restore our faith in humanity. And businesses such as Chatime and One Room Cafe have also joined in on the show of good deeds by giving out free drinks to delivery riders who are braving the outside world so we can all stay well fed at home.

Chatime’s “belanja” spree a few months ago saw SPM students getting free bubble tea with every ‘A’ they received. And on 23rd March 2020, they returned with another treat – giving out 5,000 free cups of bubble tea to GrabFood and Foodpanda riders in Klang Valley.Â

Proving that we’re all in this together, riders from GrabFood and FoodPanda even took the time to snap photos together with their free cold drinks from Chatime.

One Roof Cafe, a coffee specialty store in Sabah, made sure delivery riders in Kota Kinabalu were also cared for. They’ve been keeping their doors open for takeout and delivery, and left free food and drinks for delivery riders on 21st and 22nd March for them to take.

The roadside booth had containers of food and canned drinks in coolers, and even a bottle of hand sanitiser for riders to use, at the “pitstop” setup outside their store.
They also decorated their table with signs that read “Free for all riders. Thank you for your efforts. Love One Roof” and “We are grateful to share food with Sabah’s hero riders”.

While the cafe works with Grabfood, More Fun, and Foodpanda to deliver their food to customers, they also welcomed delivery riders from fast food chains such as McDonalds and KFC to come by and pick up free food.
Netizens applaud the good deeds
With support pouring in for those on the frontline like hospital staff, netizens made sure that their abang riders were getting support as well. They flooded Chatime and One Roof Cafe’s Facebook posts with comments of appreciation for their efforts.
A commenter on One Roof Cafe’s Facebook post, who appears to be a delivery rider, reached out to write his thanks, saying “I very appreciate your kindness to all the riders. Nothing special about us just a food delivery”.

And many on Chatime’s Facebook post gave them a thumbs up and kind words too. A comment from Stephen Sit even asked them to consider broadening their belanja program to include those in Ipoh so riders can have a treat there too.
